Having individually powerful heroes is useful in DragonSword: Awakening, but once you start getting into harder content, team synergy becomes much more important than simply filling your party with high-tier characters.

A good team lets one hero set up a status effect or enemy state before another character immediately takes advantage of it. This makes tagging between heroes smoother and gives you much better control over difficult enemies and bosses.

Early on, your choices will naturally be limited because many heroes are still locked. That’s fine. You can start with the characters available to you and gradually work toward one of the stronger compositions below.

Here are some of the best teams to build around.

Best DragonSword Awakening Teams

TeamCharactersMain Strength
Bleed & StunTheresia + Roxy + Lute/CastellaBleed, Stun and sustained damage
AirborneReina + Lute + CastellaAirborne combos and juggling
Stagger & ControlOrnette + Castella + AlexArmor breaking, Knockdown and boss control
Beginner TeamLute + Theresia + OrnetteBalanced damage, healing and easy gameplay

Each composition plays quite differently, so your best team ultimately depends on how you prefer to fight.

Bleed and Stun Team

Recommended team: Theresia + Roxy + Lute

You can replace Lute with Castella if you want additional Stun and enemy control.

This is one of the strongest combinations because Theresia can provide both Bleed and Stun herself.

That makes her the centerpiece of the entire composition.

Start the fight with Theresia and use her abilities to apply Bleed. You can then use her second ability to Stun the enemy, creating the opening needed to tag Roxy into battle.

Roxy can capitalize on that setup and continue dealing damage while adding even more Bleed pressure.

Once Roxy has completed her part of the combo, bring in your third character.

Should You Use Lute or Castella?

Both work, but they serve different purposes.

Lute is my preferred option for difficult encounters. His Healing Circle gives the party some much-needed sustainability during longer boss battles, while he can still contribute Stun and damage.

Castella is the more aggressive control option. Her ability to inflict additional Stuns and manipulate enemies can make it easier to keep opponents from fighting back.

So the choice is fairly simple:

Theresia + Roxy + Lute is the safer and more balanced version.

Theresia + Roxy + Castella is better when you want to emphasize Stun and offensive control.

Either way, Theresia should remain the centerpiece.

Airborne Team

Recommended team: Reina + Lute + Castella

Alternative: Replace Lute with Aria

Airborne compositions are much more technical than the Bleed team. You’ll need to learn the timing and movement of your heroes rather than simply activating abilities whenever they’re available.

Once everything clicks, however, this team can repeatedly exploit Airborne weaknesses while keeping enemies trapped in extended combos.

Reina starts the sequence.

Use either Rising Cutter or Wind Slayer to launch your target off the ground.

As soon as the enemy begins rising, follow up with Tempest Signal.

Now you can tag Lute into the battle and activate his Signal Skill. The purpose here is to extend the duration of the juggle rather than allowing the enemy to immediately recover.

Finally, switch to Castella.

Castella finishes the sequence by slamming the airborne enemy back into the ground, dealing considerable damage in the process.

Your basic rotation therefore looks like this:

Reina launches → Reina uses Tempest Signal → Lute extends the juggle → Castella slams the enemy down.

Once your abilities are ready again, repeat the sequence.

Aria can take Lute’s position if you want to experiment with a different version of the composition, although Lute has the advantage of being available from the beginning and provides useful team utility.

The biggest drawback is execution. Expect this composition to take some practice before it feels natural.

Stagger and Control Team

Recommended team: Ornette + Castella + Alex

This is a particularly interesting option against heavily armored bosses.

Rather than focusing primarily on flashy combo chains, the objective is to strip away the enemy’s protection and keep them under control.

Ornette and Alex handle the opening phase particularly well.

Begin with either character and concentrate your attacks on the enemy’s heavy protection. Your immediate objective is to drain their Power Armor as rapidly as possible.

Once you’ve broken through that protection, trigger a Knockdown and tag Castella into combat.

Castella can capitalize on the vulnerable enemy and use her crowd-control abilities to keep momentum on your side.

Once her part of the sequence is finished, switch back to Ornette or Alex and begin setting up the next cycle.

The general rotation becomes:

Ornette/Alex breaks protection → Knockdown → Castella takes control → switch back → repeat.

This isn’t necessarily the composition I’d pick for clearing every regular encounter, but it becomes much more attractive when fighting bosses with enormous amounts of armor.

Best Beginner Team

Recommended team: Lute + Theresia + Ornette

If you’ve only recently started DragonSword: Awakening, don’t worry about immediately assembling a highly specialized Bleed, Frost or Airborne composition.

Your roster is going to be limited.

Instead, Lute, Theresia and Ornette provide an excellent foundation.

Lute is available for free, while Theresia and Ornette can be unlocked relatively early. More importantly, the three give you a balanced mixture of damage, healing, Stun, Shock and general combat utility.

Lute is especially valuable for a new player because of his Healing Circle. It gives you a way to recover from mistakes without requiring a dedicated support-heavy setup.

Theresia supplies the team’s major offensive threat through her Bleed and Stun capabilities.

Ornette rounds things out with powerful attacks and Shock.

There aren’t any particularly complicated mechanics that you need to master before this composition starts working, either. That makes it considerably more forgiving while you’re still learning combat.

How to Upgrade the Beginner Team

The beginner composition is also useful because you can gradually turn it into a more specialized team rather than rebuilding everything from scratch.

Want to start playing around Bleed?

Replace Ornette with Roxy, giving you:

Theresia + Roxy + Lute

You now have the core Bleed/Stun composition while retaining Lute’s healing.

If you’d rather experiment with control, you can start bringing Castella into the setup.

That flexibility makes investing in characters such as Lute and Theresia particularly useful early on.

Which DragonSword Awakening Team Is Best?

For general progression, I’d favor Theresia + Roxy + Lute once you have everyone available.

Theresia and Roxy give the composition excellent Bleed potential, Theresia can also provide Stun, and Lute covers one of its biggest potential weaknesses by adding healing and further utility.

For bosses with substantial protection, Ornette + Castella + Alex becomes more appealing because the entire composition is designed around breaking defenses and maintaining control afterward.

If you enjoy combo-heavy gameplay, go with Reina + Lute + Castella. The Airborne rotation has a higher execution requirement, but repeatedly launching, juggling and slamming enemies makes it one of the more satisfying teams once you’ve learned its timings.

New players shouldn’t overcomplicate things. Lute + Theresia + Ornette gives you everything you need to learn the game while still being strong enough to handle progression.

Most importantly, don’t build a team based purely on character tiers. DragonSword: Awakening rewards heroes whose abilities flow into one another, and a coordinated A-Tier character can contribute far more to your composition than an S-Tier character who has no synergy with the other two members.
