Playing as Michael Myers in Halloween: The Game goes beyond the typical slash-and-chase approach. Success hinges on stalking your victims carefully, managing Bloodlust properly, and mastering the timing of abilities like Shape Jump to outmaneuver your prey.
This article breaks down how to unlock the distinctive Boogeyman mode and reveals the most effective abilities to maximize your power. It also covers key aspects such as entering houses, stalking mechanics, kill options, and essential tips to elevate your point tally.
Best Boogeyman Loadout
Before each match, you select your weapon along with up to three special abilities. While the weapon choice aligns with personal preference, your ability picks directly impact your gameplay dynamics and effectiveness.
You can also drop your current weapon during a match and return to your knife. Michael always has his knife available.
You have the option to drop your current weapon mid-match and revert to Michael’s default knife, which is always available for use.
Reality Tear
Reality Tear stands out as one of the most powerful abilities. It grants you the flexibility to enter or exit Shape Jump even when conditions normally prohibit it — like when you’re exposed to light or being watched by players or NPCs.
Although the cooldown for Reality Tear is noticeably long, its strategic value in tight spots makes it indispensable.
Detection Pulse
Detection Pulse
When losing track of the action, Detection Pulse helps by revealing nearby players and NPCs. It marks targets inside buildings as red icons on the map, while those outside glow directly around them.
Keep in mind that marked players are alerted they’ve been detected, so conserving this ability for crucial moments is key.

Blackout
Blackout
The Blackout ability disables nearby lights and vehicles, and can also force doors to close. It’s particularly useful against enemies using flashlights to expose you or when you need rapid house entry or to block escape routes.
Despite its utility, Blackout isn’t as pivotal as Reality Tear for most gameplay scenarios.
Shadow Strike
Shadow Strike
Shadow Strike lets you throw a knife to blind and slow a target briefly. It’s most effective at close range and boasts a short cooldown, though it’s less effective against players adept at evading you.
Evil Presence
Evil Presence
Evil Presence is a solid pick when facing multiple foes. It staggers nearby enemies momentarily and boosts Michael’s health, giving you the opening to attack or grab a victim.
Against groups, this can outperform Shadow Strike by controlling crowds more effectively.
Shape Mines
Shape Mines
Shape Mines can be deployed to alert you when someone triggers them. You can place up to three simultaneously with relatively short cooldowns, but often there are more advantageous ability choices.
Understand Your HUD
Understand Your HUD
Your HUD provides essential information during matches. Pay attention to the map, indicated Key Targets, current police alert level, your Bloodlust meter, and ability cooldowns to stay on top of the hunt.

Remember that Halloween: The Game scores heavily on victim types rather than simply killing players. NPC Key Targets and Citizens are vital for maximizing your final score.
A player escaping or dying doesn’t matter to your score. NPCs, especially Key Targets and Citizens, are important for your final score.
Which Targets Should You Kill First?
Targets are divided into four main categories, each with distinct value and challenge.
1. Key Targets
1. Key Targets
Key Targets, marked in yellow, should always be your priority. Killing them grants large point bonuses. Stalking these victims before execution can further amplify your score.
2. Citizens
2. Citizens
Citizens appear in blue and generate less score than Key Targets but are crucial for building your Bloodlust. Prevent them from escaping as it costs you valuable points. They tend to be easier foes and good early targets to gain momentum.
Citizens are usually easier to deal with than player-controlled Heroes, so they’re good targets while you’re building strength.
3. Heroes
3. Heroes
Heroes are player-controlled and displayed in green. While they yield higher points than Citizens, they are much tougher adversaries and should not be your immediate focus. Prioritize weaker NPC targets until the civilian Heroes are gone for easier tracking.
Don’t think to chase and kill Heroes at the beginning of the match. Focus on key targets and citizens, as they can give you better use of your time.
Once all civilian Heroes have either escaped or died, you can track the remaining NPCs more easily. Living NPCs will be stalked to Tier 1, and Citizens will appear as blue marks on your map.
4. Cops
4. Cops
Cops controlled by AI contribute minimal points and mainly serve to hinder you through investigation. Fear player-controlled cops, who are far more dangerous with firearms and tactics.
Use Killer Sense to Track People
Use Killer Sense to Track People
Activating Killer Sense by pressing the middle mouse button reveals a detailed overlay of your surroundings. Different icons distinguish weapons, phones, noises, context kill locations, and more, giving you the edge in tracking and stalking targets.
- Red highlights: Weapons
- Green marks: Phones
- Blue rings: Small noises
- Red rings: Loud noises
- Red ring with skull: Context kill location
- Green static rings: Noise sources such as TVs and stereos
Killer Sense is also used for stalking targets.
Alternatively, you can use Killer Sense to teleport into certain hiding spots when you’re close enough.
Shape Jump Is Your Best Movement Tool
Shape Jump Is Your Best Movement Tool
Shape Jump is central to your mobility. It allows you to move invisibly across the map and to enter houses via doors or windows covertly. Pressing Space while in Shape Jump performs a dash, limited by a blue charge bar.
You can press Space to dash while using Shape Jump. The blue bar shows your available dash charges.
There are some restrictions. You normally can’t enter or leave Shape Jump when:
Be mindful of constraints that prevent entering or exiting Shape Jump: standing in light, being observed by players or NPCs, or being too close to a target. Your current Stalk level determines how close you can materialize near your victim.
Your target’s Stalk level also affects how close you can appear to them. The higher their Stalk level, the closer you can exit Shape Jump.
Shape Jump can also take you into hiding spots when you’re close enough.
How to Grab and Kill People
How to Grab and Kill People
Basic combat uses mouse buttons and keys: left click for light attack, right click for heavy attack or weapon use, F to grab, and space to shove. Grab is critical for finishing victims but avoid doing so near multiple players to minimize risks.
Grabbing is one of your main ways to finish a target, but don’t grab someone when several players are standing nearby.
Once you’ve grabbed someone, select an execution method based on your weapon, Bloodlust level, and situation.

Weapon Execution
Weapon Execution
Weapon executions rely on your current weapon. Be cautious, as some have lengthy animations leaving you exposed, especially when surrounded.

Bloodthirsty Execution
Bloodthirsty Execution
This requires max Bloodthirst and involves extra button prompts. Though it takes time, it yields large score bonuses and is worthwhile if you’re safely positioned.
Bare-Handed Execution
Bare-Handed Execution
Available by default, bare-handed kills use Michael’s grip and choking abilities. If you lack weapons or Bloodthirst, this is your fallback option.
If you don’t have any weapon or bloodthirst, you’ll only see the bare-handed kill option.
Context Kills
Context Kills
These kills let you finish victims quickly in special spots like telephone wire areas, often requiring a higher Stalk level. They also grant significant score, so use Killer Sense to look for red skull markers signaling these opportunities.
They also give good score, so keep an eye out for the red skull markers while using Killer Sense.
Shove
Shove
The shove (spacebar) is an underappreciated tool. It interrupts enemy actions, staggers targets, and can open windows for grabs or attacks. Proper timing changes fight outcomes, especially in solo confrontations.
If someone is trying to fight you alone, a well-timed shove can completely change the fight result.
How to Enter Houses
How to Enter Houses
Entering houses is necessary for finding more citizens, collectibles, and sometimes key objectives. There are multiple approaches to gain entry depending on the situation.
Use the Power Box
Locate a power box and fuse box outside houses to use environmental elements for gaining access.
