- Preparation Before Hunting Every Puzzle
One thing I quickly learned while clearing these puzzles is that it isn’t worth trying to complete every puzzle as soon as you discover it. Several locations require characters that won’t be available until later chapters. Nightwing becomes especially important in Chapter 4, while Batgirl can reveal important map markers through signal towers, making cleanup much easier.
This guide covers every Riddler Puzzle in Tricorner and the first puzzles in Old Gotham South, explaining not only where to find them but also the easiest way to solve them.
Tricorner District Overview
Tricorner is the first major area where players can freely explore and hunt for collectibles. There are nine Riddler Puzzles scattered throughout the district.
Many of these serve as tutorials for mechanics you’ll encounter repeatedly throughout Gotham, including mirror puzzles, battery networks, environmental circuits, pressure plates, and character-specific gadgets.
The Mirror Chamber Introduction
The first Riddler Puzzle acts as an extended tutorial and introduces the mirror puzzle mechanic.
Inside the challenge area, you will encounter three separate mirror rooms. Each room contains several pedestals and a mirror displaying the correct arrangement. Your objective is always the same: recreate the reflected image using nearby objects.
Solving the First Mirror Puzzle
The first room contains three pedestals and a missing bear statue.
Take a moment to compare the real pedestals with the reflection. The bear is the missing object needed to match the mirrored arrangement.
Search the area slightly ahead of the pedestals on the right side of the room. Once you locate the bear, place it on the correct pedestal to complete the first section.
Solving the Second Mirror Puzzle
The second room follows the same concept but introduces multiple objects.
Start by moving the candles from the first pedestal to the third pedestal.
Next, turn around and locate the wall marked with the number one. Break the nearby boxes to reveal a small statue wearing a hat. Place this statue on the first pedestal.
The final object is a flower vase. Climb the nearby stairs and follow the ledge until you reach the flower. Carry it back and place it on the middle pedestal.
When all three items match the mirror image, the second puzzle will be complete.
Solving the Third Mirror Puzzle
The final mirror room contains a flower and a stereo.
Break the objects near the wall to the left of the pedestals to uncover the stereo. Place it on the second pedestal.
For the flower, return to the previous room and remove the flower vase from the second puzzle’s middle pedestal. Bring it into the third room and place it on the first pedestal.
Once both items match the reflection, the entire Riddle Me This mission is completed and the first Riddler Puzzle is collected.
Restoring Power to the Rooftop Cage
Required Characters: Nightwing
This puzzle is located on a rooftop inside a locked cage.
Start by breaking the nearby electrical box and rebuilding it. You’ll discover a Nightwing activation point, but it lacks power.
Activate detective vision and follow the electrical cables leading below the building.
You need two batteries.
The smaller single-cylinder battery can be found on the rooftop near the puzzle itself. Break nearby crates to reveal it.
The larger four-cylinder battery is located on the lower level. Follow the pathway and search behind another collection of breakable crates.
Place both batteries into their matching power stations.
Once both batteries are installed, use Nightwing’s electrical linking ability to connect each power source to the main generator.
Return to the rooftop and activate the Nightwing mechanism. The cage will unlock and reveal the puzzle piece.
The Batarang Target Challenge
Required Character: Batman
This puzzle begins with detective work.
Use Batman’s special vision near the puzzle piece and trace the power cable leading away from the cage.
Eventually, you’ll find a rotating mechanism. Activate it to begin a target challenge.
Several symbols will appear.
Only throw Batarangs at the green symbols displaying check marks. Ignore every red symbol marked with an X.
Successfully hit all six correct targets to unlock the puzzle cage.
The Forklift Storage Puzzle
Required Characters: Batman and Catwoman
This puzzle combines gadgets from both heroes.
Use Batman’s Batclaw to tear open the locked container.
Unfortunately, the mechanism requires a handle before it can be activated.
Switch to Catwoman and use her whip on the nearby forklift. The forklift raises a platform carrying several crates.
Destroy the crates to uncover the missing handle.
Insert the handle into the mechanism connected to the container and rotate it to open the cage.
The Multi-Level Battery Lift Puzzle
Required Character: Any
This puzzle revolves around transporting batteries between multiple floors.
The Riddler cube hangs high above the street while a nearby lift serves as the primary route upward.
The first battery powers a green question mark near the top of the structure. Climb up and remove it.
Insert the battery into the lift’s power source and ride upward until you reach the next empty generator.
The second battery powers another question mark lower on the structure. Remove it and place it in the newly discovered power source.
Continue upward until reaching the final generator near the puzzle cage.
Remove the battery currently powering the lift. You can safely reach the upper platform later using your grapple.
Insert the battery into the final generator to unlock access to the puzzle piece.
Disabling the Electric Security System
Required Character: Any
The sixth puzzle appears protected by an electrical barrier.
Turn around and use your grapple to follow the blue cable leading away from the cage.
Eventually you’ll reach another rooftop containing a platform and pressure plate.
Nearby, a strong air current allows access to a higher rooftop. Use the gust to glide across the gap and land near the pressure plate.
Standing on the plate disables the electrical field surrounding the puzzle.
Return to the original location and collect your reward.
The Building Light Sequence Puzzle
Required Characters: Batman and Nightwing
This is one of the more complex puzzles in Tricorner.
A nearby building contains three separate floors with illuminated green windows. Detective vision reveals cables leading from each floor to a different rooftop light display.
The clue panel near the puzzle cage shows the final light configuration you need to create.
Each rooftop display can cycle through different lighting arrangements by hitting its target.
The top display should show only the first and fourth lights illuminated.
The middle display should show only the fourth light illuminated.
The lowest display should show the second, third, and fourth lights illuminated.
Continue cycling each display until every floor matches the required pattern.
Once all three displays are correct, the puzzle cage unlocks automatically.
The Shipping Container Recovery Puzzle
Required Characters: Robin and Gordon
This puzzle is hidden inside a sealed shipping container.
Begin by using Gordon’s foam gadget to seal the hole on the right side of the container.
Next, switch to Robin and pry open the damaged door on the left side.
Destroy nearby debris to reveal a battery.
Insert the battery into the opening created by Robin.
The puzzle piece will launch from the top of the container and land nearby for collection.
The Hidden Sewer Puzzle
Required Character: Any
The final Tricorner puzzle is concealed deep inside a sewer system.
Enter the nearby building and locate the green floor panel blocking your path.
Before it can open, climb to the roof and destroy surrounding objects to build an air vent.
Ride the air current upward and follow the trail of gold coins.
Dropping onto the correct location causes the green platform below to open.
You’ll fall into the sewer area beneath the building.
Climb the ladder inside the sewer and collect the final Tricorner Riddler Puzzle.
Old Gotham South Overview
Old Gotham South introduces larger puzzle networks and more complicated power-routing challenges. The area again contains nine Riddler Puzzles, although the first few are among the most elaborate in the game.
The Four-Power Source Puzzle
Required Character: Nightwing
This puzzle sits atop a building surrounded by four separate power connections.
Start by locating the large four-cylinder battery hidden behind a nearby wall. Place it into the first power station.
Next, grab the smaller battery located nearby and follow the left-side cable leading to a lower rooftop.
Because the generator is positioned out of reach, drop the battery and use Nightwing’s cable-linking ability to connect it remotely.
For the third power source, remove the battery positioned near the puzzle cage and place it into a nearby elevator generator.
Ride the elevator downward.
The final battery can be found on another rooftop. If it is difficult to spot, gain elevation and scan the surrounding area carefully.
Carry it down and install it into the remaining generator.
Finally, return the elevator battery to its original location near the puzzle cage.
With all four generators powered, the cage unlocks.
The Burning Barrier Puzzle
Required Character: Batman
This puzzle appears inaccessible due to a wall of flames.
Activate Batman’s UV vision and follow the yellow pipe leading away from the fire.
The pipe eventually reaches a hidden wall section.
Use Batman’s Spray Explosive gadget to destroy the wall.
Behind it you’ll discover a wheel mechanism.
Turn the wheel to shut down the heat source feeding the flames.
Once the fire is extinguished, return to the original location and collect the Riddler Puzzle.
Preparation Before Hunting Every Puzzle
Before attempting full completion, it is worth unlocking several key heroes first.
Nightwing is arguably the most important character because many puzzles rely on his electrical linking abilities. Batman remains essential due to detective vision and gadget interactions. Catwoman, Robin, Gordon, and Batgirl each unlock unique puzzle solutions scattered throughout Gotham.
If your goal is 100% completion, waiting until Chapter 4 gives you access to most of the tools needed to clear large portions of the city in a single exploration session rather than constantly returning later.
