Portal: Alive & Kicking builds on the classic portal puzzle mechanics by challenging players with a mix of turrets, energy pellets, and complex traps. The tension of navigating these test chambers makes earning achievements feel like meaningful milestones as you progress through the game’s inventive puzzles and narrative twists.

While many achievements unlock naturally through story progression, several stand out by requiring specific actions beyond simply finishing a chamber. Players may need to flush a toilet obsessively or complete a level without toppling any turrets, adding extra layers of challenge to the experience.

Tracking all achievements means knowing exactly where and how to perform these unique tasks. From handling tricky puzzles in Test Chamber 16 to engaging with secret areas and items, understanding these requirements is key to mastering the full roster of achievements.

Story Achievements

High-Energy Professional

Achievement: Complete the first High-Energy Pellet test.

This achievement unlocks organically as you advance through the story.

Reach Test Chamber 06, which introduces High-Energy Pellets. Successfully complete all chamber objectives to earn this achievement.

The Device Has Been Modified

Achievement: Acquire the Dual Portal Device.

This is an essential story achievement gained during normal gameplay.

By completing Test Chamber 11 and solving its puzzles, you’ll receive the Dual Portal Device, unlocking this achievement immediately.

The key moment is physically picking up the device to trigger the achievement.

Fratricide

Achievement: Do whatever it takes to survive.

This achievement appears in Test Chamber 17.

You must sacrifice the beloved Companion Cube by placing it into the Emergency Intelligence Incinerator.

Burning the Companion Cube is the specific action that unlocks this achievement.

Life of the Party

Achievement: Make the incorrect party escort submission position decision.

This achievement is story-related and unlocks after finishing Test Chamber 19.

Complete the fiery escape sequence following the chamber, including surviving the burning pit, to secure this achievement.

Heartbreaker

Achievement: Complete Alive & Kicking.

This reward marks the game’s final story milestone.

Keep progressing through the narrative until defeating GLaDOS to achieve this ultimate accomplishment.

Other Achievements

Unappreciated Business

Achievement: Make a toilet hate you.

This quirky achievement is available shortly after the game starts.

Inside the Aperture Science relaxation chamber, head to the toilet and repeatedly interact with it by pressing E around twenty times.

Listen for a change in sound, then watch as the toilet lid slams shut to signal the achievement’s unlock.

At that moment, the achievement will register.

Get Stuck

Achievement: Get stuck.

Several methods exist to trigger this achievement, but one straightforward approach works reliably.

In Test Chamber 05, place a blue portal on the exit door. This causes the cube to become unreachable, stuck behind the door.

After GLaDOS remarks about your predicament, the door will open, confirming the achievement.

You can also achieve this by sending a cube through an orange portal behind the exit or by falling into a hatch triggered in chambers with pellet doors.

These alternative options offer additional paths to trigger the “Get Stuck” achievement.

Blameless

Achievement: Complete Chamber 16 without knocking over any turrets.

This is one of the game’s more challenging achievements, requiring precise handling to keep all turrets upright.

Portal Alive & Kicking Blameless achievement requires careful turret handling in Chamber 16

Even a single turret tipping over mandates restarting the chamber and trying again.

To safely neutralize turrets without toppling them:

  1. Approach a turret from behind.
  2. Pick up the turret carefully.
  3. Turn it to face a wall away from you.
  4. Set it down in an upright position.
  5. Use cubes to block laser sights as necessary.
  1. Approach a turret from behind.
  2. Pick it up.
  3. Turn it toward the wall.
  4. Leave it standing upright.
  5. Use cubes to block laser sights when needed.

Maintaining turret balance during movement is critical to earning this achievement.

If a turret falls over, reset the chamber and repeat the careful approach.

Multiverse Explorer

Achievement: Beat all levels in the Extras menu.

This achievement currently behaves differently than expected, with only specific bonus chambers registering toward completion.

Currently, Chamber 18 Advanced is the sole bonus level needed.

To unlock this achievement, complete the following steps:

  • Navigate to the Extras menu.
  • Start Chamber 18 Advanced.
  • Successfully finish this level.
  • Check your achievements to confirm unlock.
  • Open the Extras menu.
  • Start Chamber 18 Advanced.
  • Complete the level.
  • Check your achievements.

Hidden Achievement Map

A hidden map file named achieve.bsp exists within the game files.

This secret map features two buttons:

  • Left button: Unlocks the Multiverse Explorer achievement.
  • Right button: Resets all unlocked achievements.

Previously, players used the console command map achieve to launch this map.

Unfortunately, this method is no longer reliable in the latest game versions.

Moreover, caution is advised: pressing the right button erases all achievement progress.

Therefore, relying on this hidden map is risky and not recommended for consistent achievement unlocking.
