POTENTIAL MAN is an adventure game that draws players into a curious world where exploration is key. Starting beneath the Great Tree, the journey unfolds through forests and hills, introducing unique characters such as Murphy and Kyle whose stories greatly shape the experience.

The game doesn’t just rely on straightforward storytelling; its achievements often hinge on subtle choices and hidden actions that many players overlook. This blend of narrative and discovery keeps the game engaging and rewards players who explore thoroughly and experiment with interactions and battle strategies.

Most of the story is straightforward, but the game has some interesting things that are easy to miss. Some achievements can be unlocked by making a specific choice, while others require you to inspect something, revisit an area, or perform something different during a battle.

So, if you want to get 100% of the POTENTIAL MAN achievements, this guide is going to help you.

POTENTIAL MAN Story Achievements

BEGIN

Achievement: Start your journey for the first time.

This is the simplest trophy in POTENTIAL MAN, earned instantly by progressing through the Great Tree’s opening dialogue and accepting the mission that sets the adventure in motion.

This achievement unlocks easily during your first moments in the game. Simply engage with the Great Tree and move forward into your quest.

I SIMPLY REFUSE

Achievement: Refuse to listen to the Great Tree.

At the mission acceptance prompt from the Great Tree, select the refusal option. Persistently choose to decline to trigger this achievement, and consider enabling Fast Dialogue in settings to speed up the process.

Continuous refusal will eventually grant this achievement, reflecting an unconventional early choice in the game’s narrative.

Keep refusing the choices until the achievement unlocks. You can also enable Fast Dialogue in the settings to make this quicker.

VANQUISH ROCK

Achievement: Eliminate the big rock.

Once the tutorial wraps up and you’re introduced to battle mechanics, the first enemy—a large rock—appears. Repeatedly attack this enemy until it is defeated. While the exact hit count isn’t specified, this initial fight is designed to be manageable for newcomers.

This early combat scenario reinforces basic mechanics and rewards persistence in battle.

You have to keep attacking the rock until you defeat it. I forgot the exact number of attacks required to defeat the rock, but I know you can manage it since it is your first enemy and easy to defeat.

A LIVELY CONVERSATION

Achievement: Speak to the rock across the whole battle.

During your fight against the rock, choose the dialogue option to talk repeatedly instead of attacking. Continue selecting this to sustain the conversation until it loops or exhausts unique dialogue lines, unlocking the achievement.

This achievement offers a fun diversion by emphasizing interaction over combat resolution.

Continue using the dialogue option until the conversation runs out and starts repeating.

INSPECTOR

Achievement: Fully inspect the remains of the rock.

Right after defeating the rock, thoroughly examine its remains. Persist with the inspection dialogue options until no new commentary appears. Completing this inspection will trigger the achievement.

After defeating the rock, make sure you inspect its remains.

This encourages paying close attention to environmental details and enriches the narrative experience.

A MAVERICK’S VICTORY

Achievement: Fight through Murphy’s week.

Progress through the storyline until you meet the character Murphy. Engage fully in the events of his week-long sequence and defeat him to unlock this achievement.

This is a major milestone as Murphy’s arc is pivotal to the story’s progression.

Follow the events of his week and defeat Murphy to unlock this achievement.

MISFIRE

Achievement: Unleash Piercing Blow and miss.

During the battle sequence involving Murphy (either in his week events or the computer battle.net segment), equip the Piercing Blow attack and deliberately miss your strike. Since attack options might be randomized, it’s wise to save before this battle to avoid frustrating repeats.

During Murphy’s week or in Murphy’s computer battle.net, your available attacks will be random. To unlock this achievement, get the Piercing Blow, use it on Murphy, and make sure your attack misses the target.

Using saves strategically ensures this achievement is unlocked efficiently despite the random attack selection.

A TRIO OF TWIGS

Achievement: Inspect 3 branches in the forest.

Head to the forest paths leading toward the cabin and the hill. The area randomly spawns Twigs. Thoroughly inspect three of these branches, which may require leaving and re-entering the area repeatedly to spawn the third twig.

Go to the forest area where you can see paths leading toward the cabin and the hill.

This area can spawn Twigs. I don’t know how to trigger them; I think they are random. For this achievement, you have to inspect three Twigs.

This achievement demands patience with exploration and repeated area entries to complete.

POTENTIAL MAN Secret Achievements

COLLECTED

Hidden Achievement: Die to the squirrel.

At the hill location, encounter a squirrel. Instead of attempting to avoid or defeat it, intentionally let the squirrel attack and kill your character to earn this achievement.

When you reach the hill for the first time, you will also encounter a squirrel.

This playful death is a hidden moment that many players might miss on a standard playthrough.

THE SAVIOR

Hidden Achievement: Reach the end of Murphy’s eagle encounter.

During Murphy’s flashback involving an eagle and his brother, open your inventory and use all three rocks offered at various moments in the encounter. Applying each rock progresses the event to its conclusion and unlocks this achievement.

When you see Murphy’s flashback with the eagle and his brother, open your inventory.

Make sure to carefully time using each rock to avoid missing this secret.

IT NEARLY HAPPENED

Hidden Achievement: Start your journey for the first time.

Despite its name, this achievement ties to Murphy’s eagle flashback again. Instead of using the rocks, choose to Guard or Run Away when facing the eagle.

Despite the description, this achievement is related to Murphy’s eagle flashback.

When you face the eagle, choose to Guard or Run Away instead of using the three rocks.

This alternative choice reveals a divergent aspect of the story and rewards the player with an achievement.

RUN AWAY, LITTLE HEDGEHOG

After your first interaction with Murphy, return to the forest.

From the hill, go down and head left. You will find a shadow belonging to Kyle.

This encounter rewards curiosity and exploration beyond primary storyline paths.

A MAN IN THE WOODS

Hidden Achievement: Revisit and ponder the man’s cabin.

Reach the cabin found by following the right path in the forest. After proceeding with Murphy’s storyline until he departs, return to the cabin for a second time. This revisit prompts event triggers, unlocking the achievement.

First, reach the forest and take the right path until you find the cabin.

Afterward, return to the hill and continue Murphy’s encounter until he leaves. Then go back to the cabin.

This reflects the game’s subtle emphasis on returning to explore changes or new details in familiar locations.

CRUSH IT

Hidden Achievement: Destroy another acorn.

In the forest where twigs appear, you’ll find an acorn on the ground. Interact with it using the Z key on your first visit to trigger a short cutscene and earn this achievement.

This small act provides an easy but easily overlooked hidden accomplishment.

When you enter the area for the first time, look for the acorn and interact with it using Z. A short cutscene will play, and the achievement will unlock.

COGNITIVE DISSONANCE

COGNITIVE DISSONANCE

After your first encounter with Murphy, you will be asked whether you want to follow him.

Choose not to follow Murphy.

Then try to go to the top of the hill. This will trigger the required event for the achievement.

This unlock showcases the game’s narrative flexibility and rewards players venturing off the main path.

A FOOL’S SCHOLAR

Hidden Achievement: Answer all of Murphy’s questions correctly.

During Murphy’s quiz, answer all 12 questions accurately to earn this achievement. The answers must be provided in the exact order below:

Question Answer
1 To find acorns
2 Greenish-Yellow
3 14
4 Medicine
5 Corporations
6 Cubie
7 “ARG” rogue-like / rogue-lite
8 Skunk
9 Caleb
10 Anonymity
11 Cashew
12 Me

Use these answers in order:

ANNOYED

ANNOYED

Hidden Achievement: Annoy Murphy during his battle segment.

In combat against Murphy, repeatedly select the option to Run instead of attacking. Persist with this tactic until the achievement unlocks.

This playful option tests patience and persistence during battle.

TURN AROUND

Hidden Achievement:

After defeating the rock enemy, return to the Great Tree. Later on, after following Murphy’s story, revisit the Great Tree again. A second cutscene plays, granting the TURN AROUND achievement.

This sequence encourages revisiting previous locations with evolving storylines.

Later, after following Murphy, return to the Great Tree again. A second cutscene will play, which unlocks the TURN AROUND achievement.

ANOTHER WORLD

ANOTHER WORLD

First, finish the game. After reaching the end, return to the Main Menu and open Extras. From there, select Murphy’s Computer.

You can find a sticky note inside that contains the password to open the computer. Enter the password and visit Murphy’s computer to unlock the achievement.

This unlock opens a new layer of lore and content beyond the main game.

END

Hidden Achievement: Reach the end of the story.

This achievement naturally unlocks when the player completes the full storyline of POTENTIAL MAN.
