Life Imitates Art: Real-Life Lobbyist Banned for Corruption in EVE Online

Brian Schoenemann – a real-life political lobbyist – has been banned from EVE Online for allegations of corruption. Schoemann’s in-game character Brisc Rubal similarly holds a political position in the in-game world. Schoenemann has been accused of abusing his in-game position to share confidential information. Offering advantages to certain other players and corrupting the integrity of the in-game world and breaching a non-disclosure agreement with the developer.    He has denied the allegations and will seek to have his position reinstated but there is little evidence that can be produced either way. EVE Online EVE Online is a science fiction […]

Five Times You Didn’t Realise You Were In A Horrible Dystopia

You can tell a lot about a game from its aesthetic. A stacked industrious landscape, a strong presence of propaganda and a struggling lower class – just a few of the familiar signs of a grim dystopia. Probably set to a backdrop of war or some kind of horrific violence still present in the landscape. We can prepare ourselves for such harrowing endeavours but sometimes they strike when we least expect it. In the kind of colourful, cutesy games that you might buy your young children. That aesthetic usually conjures warm, kind emotions but sometimes hides a malevolent secret. Thank goodness […]

The Division 2 – What a Sequel Should Be

Ever since Ubisoft announced The Division 2, we were highly skeptical. When the first of the franchise was released, initial impressions were over the moon. Then, came the endgame. Or rather, the complete and utter lack of it. Although the Division series bears some of the hallmarks of the traditional Ubisoft gamut, they deviate far from the rest of their titles in that they’re the closest that the international publisher has to an MMO. As such, the initial “campaign” through the 30-or-so levels serves just as levelling in any other MMO does: as a primer for the endgame. The endgame is […]

How Forza Horizon Beat Out Forza Motorsport

We know better than most that our inclinations toward our favourite games are utterly subjective, but there comes a time when we all have to admit when our favourite franchise must bend the knee to another. Yet how often does that threat come from within? Such is the case with Microsoft’s Forza. Originally ushered into this world as a competitor in the Motorsport simulation market, Forza has built up quite the following since its humble beginnings. Decked-out to the nines with all of the stats, graphs, data, and tuning specs than any self-respecting motorhead would desire, Forza Motorsport earned its laurels […]

Can Session Recapture the Magic of the Skateboarding Subgenre?

Skateboarding was once a flourishing and highly popular sub-genre in the gaming world. A trend that took off in the late 90s’ and enjoyed a decade-long high. Upcoming Xbox exclusive, Session, hopes to recapture that magic for a new generation. But with a subgenre that’s been dead in the ground for the majority of the last decade is the audience there? Skating on Cloud Nine The skateboarding genre largely consisted of two significant rivals series, Tony Hawk’s and Skate. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater was released in 1999 to huge critical and commercial success, dumbfounding many. The sequel was an even […]

Microsoft is Bringing Halo to PC – And It’s About Time

At this point, this isn’t news anymore – but by God are we still reeling from the announcement that Microsoft is finally bringing Halo to PC. While this is certainly not the first time that a Halo game has found its way onto the PC platform, it does mark the first time in the history of the company that they’ve elected to bring the entirety of the franchise to PC Gaming Master Race. Initially released in 2014 solely for Microsoft’s Xbox console family, the Master Chief Collection on PC will feature every game in the franchise up to Halo 4 […]

Google Stadia Could Spell The End of The Console Wars

Rumours that Google were about to break into the console market have been circling for some time. And we finally have some solid evidence of the project that has been labelled Google Stadia. Google Stadia will forgo the conventional console format for an entirely cloud-based system. Similar to other services Google already offers like Google Play and Google Drive. Players will be able to launch their games on any device that supports Wi-Fi. The new format is potentially game-changing and if it works, could spell the end of the console wars.    Google Stadia Services Google made their announcement at […]

A Second Chance: A Succesful Switch After All?

Somehow, Nintendo has managed to do it again. After the lacklustre performance of the Wii U, we can officially say that Nintendo has struck gold with the Switch. While many still consider the hallmark signs of a console prowess to be graphical horsepower, the Switch proves that Nintendo is ready to defy that sentiment for yet another console generation. Where the Wii U languished, the Switch soars. Bucking the crucial mistake that the Wii U made and establishing a strong brand image has been precisely what the Switch needed to do – and it knocks it out of the park. […]

Counter Strike Global Offensive: The Comeback

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive went free-to-play and had an official Battle Royale mode added to the game last month. Long-time fans of the franchise were initially both confused and highly sceptical, but new numbers show that the game was played by over 20 million people in December alone, which is the all-time record. What does this new direction mean for the classic shooter? What is the thought process behind it from Valve’s side? Danger Zone There is no shortage of Battle Royale games. As we head into 2019, the genre is still as hot as ever, but few expected Counter-Strike to […]

Will VR Ever Take Off?

Tis the season where tech manufacturers are doing their damnedest to convince us that we NEED their product. This year, like many before, the toughest tech to sell is looking to be VR. VR – or Virtual Reality – has captivated the imaginations of science-fiction fans for countless years on end. The idea of donning goggles, gloves, and a haptic feedback suit is understandably captivating. Anything that can add to our sense of immersion within a virtual world is enough to for us to work fervently on to make into a reality. The only problem is, that reality isn’t here […]
