Crafting is an important part of surviving in The Blood of Dawnwalker, especially when you start playing on higher difficulties. You can make healing items and consumables that improve Coen’s combat abilities, giving you some extra help when you’re heading into dangerous areas.
The crafting system is available very early, so there’s no reason to ignore it while you’re exploring Vale Sangora. You’ll find the ingredients you need during normal exploration, particularly herbs and materials inside containers.
In this guide, I’ll explain how crafting works, where to find materials, how to use the crafting menu, and how consumable durations work.
The Blood of Dawnwalker Crafting Guide – How to Craft Items
Crafting is unlocked from the beginning of the game.
To access it, open the radial menu and look toward the bottom-left section. You’ll find the dedicated Crafting menu there.
From this menu, you can create different consumables that either restore Coen’s health or improve his combat capabilities.
The available items become more useful as you progress through the game and unlock additional recipes.
Daytime and Nighttime Crafting Items
One thing you need to remember is that Coen’s two forms have different consumable requirements.
Crafted consumables are divided between daytime and nighttime use.
Coen’s normal human form uses daytime items, while his vampire form relies on nighttime consumables.
You cannot use daytime healing items while you’re in vampire form at night, and nighttime items aren’t available for your daytime form either.
Because of this, I’d recommend keeping a few useful items for both parts of the day rather than filling your inventory with only one type.
How to Find Crafting Ingredients
Crafting materials can be found throughout Vale Sangora, so you don’t need to go out of your way to gather everything.
Keep an eye out for containers and plants while traveling between quests.
Loot Containers
Boxes, crates, and other containers can contain crafting materials, including water.
Whenever you’re exploring an area, it’s worth checking nearby containers before moving on. You’ll gradually build up a supply of materials without needing to stop specifically for farming.
Collect Herbs
You’ll also find herbs growing throughout the world.
Whenever you’re traveling between quests, pick up herbs you encounter along the way. They are used in various crafting recipes, including healing consumables.
I recommend making this part of your normal exploration routine. You don’t have to spend a large amount of time gathering materials if you simply collect them while you’re already traveling.
How Long Do Consumables Last?
Not every consumable has the same duration.
Some items only remain active for a few seconds, while others can last for several time segments.
You can check an item’s duration directly from your inventory. When you hover over a consumable, its duration is displayed alongside its weight and value.
Healing and Stamina Items
Healing items and stamina regeneration consumables generally have short durations.
These effects only last for a few seconds, so use them when you actually need the benefit rather than activating them too early.
Combat Buffs
Some consumables provide combat bonuses, such as increasing Coen’s attack power.
These can last for several time segments.
You’ll see an hourglass icon next to the duration when an item works this way.
The important part is that these buffs are tied to the game’s time progression.
If you’re not doing anything that advances time, the buff won’t simply disappear because you’ve been standing around.
However, if you spend several hours completing quests and other activities, the duration will eventually run down.
Because of this, remember to reapply long-duration buffs after spending several time segments questing.
Crafting Tips
The easiest way to stay stocked on crafting items is to gather materials as you explore rather than waiting until you run out.
Keep checking containers for water and other materials, and pick up herbs whenever you see them.
Also pay attention to whether a consumable is designed for daytime or nighttime use. Since Coen’s forms have different item requirements, having the right healing or combat consumable available at the right time can make a big difference.
As you unlock more recipes, crafting becomes much more valuable, so it’s worth getting into the habit of collecting materials from the start of the game.
