  • Baba isn’t your typical damage dealer; her strengths lie in controlling the battlefield with supernatural powers and aggressive movement. Inspired by Baba Yaga folklore, she’s been given a striking, unpredictable twist that adds depth to her playstyle. Her toolkit lets her poke enemies from afar, dash in swiftly, and manipulate engagements to favor her team’s strategy.
  • Armed with the Bunko-Night Special, a rapid-fire tea-cup gun, Baba delivers a unique firing experience that thrives when combined with her Spirit stealing mechanic. Bullet Damage: 8.8 per shot (3 pellets) Clip Size: 15 Fire Rate: 3.23 shots per second Falloff Range: Effective between 15m and 42m Reload Time: 2.5 seconds When Baba steals Spirit with Threadsap, each bullet gains bonus Spirit damage, making her pressure output even deadlier.
  • What are Her Abilities?
  • Granny Long Legs equips Baba with vital mobility to bridge the gap or disengage swiftly. Activating this ability extends her bench legs for 10 seconds, granting bonus movement speed, enhanced jumps, and resistance to debuffs and melee attacks. During this time, her melee attacks transform: a light melee becomes a powerful kick that knocks enemies back, while heavy melee triggers a ground pound dealing Spirit damage with knock-up and slow effects. Holding crouch charges a high jump, adding verticality to her movement. Note that the base cooldown is 32 seconds after recent balancing changes.

Baba is one of the most intriguing additions from Deadlock’s City Never Sleeps update. This mysterious hero’s blend of spirit damage, crowd control, and mobility makes her a standout choice for players looking to bring a fresh, disruptive edge to their team fights.

She is now playable and she is much more than just another mysterious hero teased by Valve. Her kit combines Spirit damage, mobility, crowd control and a strange bird-themed ultimate that makes her stand out from the rest of the roster.

This guide covers everything you need to know about Baba, including her abilities, weapon and how to use her kit effectively in matches.

Baba isn’t your typical damage dealer; her strengths lie in controlling the battlefield with supernatural powers and aggressive movement. Inspired by Baba Yaga folklore, she’s been given a striking, unpredictable twist that adds depth to her playstyle. Her toolkit lets her poke enemies from afar, dash in swiftly, and manipulate engagements to favor her team’s strategy.

Baba is one of Deadlock’s newer heroes, built around a mix of supernatural abilities and aggressive mobility. Her design takes inspiration from the classic Baba Yaga folklore figure, but Valve gives her a much stranger twist with her own personality, visual style and unusual abilities.

Unlike heroes who rely only on raw weapon damage, Baba uses Spirit-based abilities to pressure enemies and control fights. Her kit allows her to poke from a distance, move into fights quickly and create openings for her team.

Armed with the Bunko-Night Special, a rapid-fire tea-cup gun, Baba delivers a unique firing experience that thrives when combined with her Spirit stealing mechanic. Bullet Damage: 8.8 per shot (3 pellets) Clip Size: 15 Fire Rate: 3.23 shots per second Falloff Range: Effective between 15m and 42m Reload Time: 2.5 seconds When Baba steals Spirit with Threadsap, each bullet gains bonus Spirit damage, making her pressure output even deadlier.

Baba’s weapon is the Bunko-Night Special (a rapid-fire tea-cup gun).

  • Bullet Damage: 8.8 (3 pellets)
  • Clip Size: 15
  • Fire Rate: 3.23 shots/sec
  • Falloff Range: 15m to 42m
  • Reload: 2.5s

Her gun much more stronger after she steals Spirit with Threadsap. While holding stolen Spirit, every bullet deals bonus Spirit damage.

What are Her Abilities?

Threadsap is Baba’s primary Spirit damage ability and a critical tool for chipping away at foes. It drains enemy Spirit, making them more vulnerable while setting up her weapon’s enhanced damage. This ability works best when you stay engaged and follow up aggressively rather than firing it off and retreating immediately.

The ability rewards aggressive play because it becomes more valuable when Baba can stay involved in fights instead of using it once and immediately backing away.

Use Threadsap before committing to longer fights, especially against enemies who cannot easily escape its pressure.

Granny Long Legs equips Baba with vital mobility to bridge the gap or disengage swiftly.

Granny Long Legs gives Baba the mobility she needs to enter and leave fights. The ability allows her to close distance quickly, reposition, catch enemies who are trying to escape.

Baba’s bench extends its legs for 10 seconds. She gains bonus move speed, higher jumps, Debuff Resistance and Melee Resistance.

While active:

  • Light Melee becomes a strong kick that knocks enemies back,
  • Heavy Melee becomes a ground pound that deals Spirit damage, knocks up and slows,
  • She can charge a high jump by holding Crouch,
  • Current base cooldown: 32s (increased in the October 14 patch).

This is her main mobility and melee tool.

Baba’s Brew Explained

Baba’s Brew is a versatile utility skill cycling through three effects: Soothing Barrier (a 90 base shield to protect allies), Silence to halt enemy abilities, and Scalding Burn that applies Spirit damage over time alongside Spirit resist reduction.

You can pause the brew’s cycle to lock in a desired effect before throwing the pot to an area, giving you adaptability in fights for shielding, disruption, or pressure.

Baba starts brewing a pot of tea that cycles between three effects:

  1. Soothing Barrier (shield for allies, currently 90 base)
  2. Silence
  3. Scalding Burn (Spirit damage over time and Spirit Resist reduction)

She can pause and resume the brew to lock in the effect she wants, then throw the pot into an area.

Feed The Birds Explained

Feed The Birds is arguably Baba’s most unique and potent crowd control tool. She channels to cover enemies with bread, stacking a slow effect. Once the channel finishes, a flock of pigeons bombards those targets, dealing Spirit damage and charming them by turning them into pigeons.

The more bread applied, the greater the damage and longer the charm duration, making it especially effective when enemies are clustered or handicapped by your team’s prior crowd control.

Baba channels and covers enemies in front of her with bread, applying a stacking slow. When the channel ends, a flock of pigeons bombards the targets, dealing Spirit damage and hexing them into pigeons. More bread means more damage and longer hex duration.

Best used when enemies are grouped or already controlled by your team.

A tip: The ability is strongest when combined with your team’s crowd control rather than used randomly.

Baba excels as an aggressive Spirit damage dealer who thrives on creating pressure rather than passive positioning. Start engagements with Threadsap to sap enemy strength, then use Granny Long Legs to reposition for follow-up damage or to escape tight situations. Baba’s Brew helps sustain her in drawn-out fights, and Feed The Birds can disrupt team fights decisively. New players often falter by treating her like a straight shooter. Her true power comes from threading together mobility, disruption, and Spirit damage in fluid combat.

Baba works best as an aggressive Spirit hero who looks for opportunities instead of waiting passively behind the team.

A typical fight starts with applying pressure using Threadsap, then using Granny Long Legs to reposition or commit when an enemy becomes vulnerable. Baba’s Brew helps her survive longer engagements, while Feed The Birds can turn a close team fight in your favor.

The biggest mistake new Baba players make is treating her like a pure damage dealer. Her strength comes from combining mobility, disruption and Spirit damage together.

Baba Role and Playstyle Explained

Baba bridges the gap between a Spirit damage specialist and a disruptive fighter. She doesn’t function like traditional ranged heroes; her effectiveness hinges on controlling distance and choosing engagements strategically, rewarding players who enjoy proactive, high-mobility combat.

She is especially effective for players who enjoy active gameplay and creating pressure from unexpected angles.

Is she based on Baba Yaga?

Baba’s roots trace back to the Baba Yaga of Slavic folklore, known for magic and mystery. While the influence is clear through her name and thematic design, Valve has crafted a distinct character fitting Deadlock’s unique blend of supernatural powers and urban action rather than a direct folklore retelling.
