Dissidia Duellum: Final Fantasy offers players plenty of ways to personalize their favorite heroes, beyond the usual outfit variations. While each character boasts six different costumes available through the gacha, there’s a lesser-known feature that allows you to unlock alternate weapon skins. These unique visuals don’t impact gameplay but stand as trophies of long-term dedication to a character. Figuring out how to obtain these can be a puzzle since the game keeps it under wraps, but it’s a rewarding goal for those looking to flaunt their mastery and commitment.
Unlocking these alternate weapon skins requires more commitment than you might expect. When you try to select a new weapon skin without unlocking it, you’ll get a hint: "Maybe if you play as this character a lot, something will happen." This isn’t just a tease; it’s a straightforward nudge toward grinding the battles.
The key is to rack up 300 battles with the character whose alternate weapon you want to unlock. These battles can be played in either Ranked or Casual modes. However, matches in the Challenge menu won’t help with this progress. Importantly, it doesn’t matter if you win or lose — each battle counts equally toward unlocking the weapon skin.
Keep in mind, Dissidia Duellum’s Crystal gacha system naturally encourages only about 12 matches per day if you want to earn rewards. Pushing beyond this limit is possible but might mean playing without gaining the usual daily bonuses. This means unlocking weapon skins is definitely a time investment that will likely span several weeks.
These weapon skins are purely cosmetic, designed as a badge of honor. Displaying an alternate weapon for a character like Cloud Strife — instead of the iconic Buster Sword — says you’re not just casually playing but have poured serious time into mastering them. It adds a layer of visual prestige that’s sure to impress in multiplayer battles.
But the dedication doesn’t stop there. For the truly committed, playing 1,000 matches with a single character unlocks a special title that labels you as a “Main” for that hero. For instance, reaching this milestone with Krile grants the “Krile Main” title. While these titles don’t alter gameplay or provide extra customization beyond the nameplate, they’re the ultimate proof of loyalty, right up there with leaderboard rankings.
Weapon skins aren’t the only reward the player will receive for playing as a character a lot. If you play 1,000 matches as a specific character (A task designed to take months to complete naturally), you will unlock a special title that shows you main that character.
For example, if you play as Krile 1,000 times you will unlock the title “Krile Main”. While it is very disappointing that the Main titles don’t include extra variety related to the character, they are the ultimate show of bragging rights in the game aside from topping the ranked leaderboards.
