Fatal Frame 2 Mayu Amakura Side Story Guide

Unlock and complete Mayu Amakura's Side Story in Fatal Frame 2 for a unique Spirit Stone and new ending.

Mayu Amakura stands out as one of survival horror’s most compelling figures, largely due to the intense bond she shares with her sister—a relationship that drives the core narrative of Fatal Frame 2. The remake expands her story with an exclusive Side Story unlocked on a third playthrough, diving deeper into her haunting journey. This addition adds a rich layer to the game, offering fans a new reason to return and uncover secrets hidden beneath the surface.

Mayu Amakura Side Story Walkthrough

To trigger Mayu Amakura’s Side Story, you first need to complete Kusabi’s Side Story, unlocking the Kusabi’s Sparkling Spirit Stone and achieving the Abyss ending. Only then will a new Side Story become available in your subsequent New Game+ run, guiding Mayu towards the mysterious Heavenly Bridge.

You must act within a narrow window after escaping the Tachibana House with Maya but before reaching the Old Tree. Head to the bridge connecting Kiryu House and Tachibana House, where a new interaction occurs: Mayu reflects on the day she fell. Photograph her to trigger events, then enter the Tachibana House to discover a letter that sends you to Ukishima.

Ukishima is a small island located to the right of Kurosawa House’s bridge, accessible by repairing a broken bridge using your Exposure Lens. On the island, find a tree where you’ll uncover a film reel. This discovery prompts a return to Kiryu House to watch what has been recorded.

Insert the film reel into the projector at Kiryu House and watch as Mayu comments on her familiarity with the Abyss. This shifts your objective to “Peer into Mayu’s Dream,” setting the stage for the next phase of her journey.

Continue until you bring Mayu to the Old Tree. Here, she’ll faint due to her injured leg. During this moment, you can interact with her to trigger a cutscene revealing glimpses of her dream and the Abyss, offering profound insights into her ordeal.

After the cutscene concludes, you automatically receive Mayu’s Sparkling Spirit Stone. This item is one half of what you need for the Sprouting Wings ending, with the other half found in Sae Kurosawa’s second Side Story.
