Fire Emblem games often feature the famed “Cain and Abel” duo—two knights, typically red and green, who join early and share a fierce rivalry. In Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, this trope gets a surprising twist: the pair, Nathan and Creek, start out as recurring enemies before they can even be recruited. Tracking down these knights adds an exciting layer to your roster-building, fitting perfectly with Fortune’s Weave’s tendency to pack your army with as many units as possible.
Creek’s recruitment is unlike any other character’s in the game because it spans multiple acts and isn’t immediately obvious. His journey to your army actually kicks off in Part 1 , but you won’t know it right away.
Specifically, during Chapter 9 of either Leda or Dietrich’s routes, you’ll spot Creek in Dagison marked with a side quest icon above his head. Talking to him begins the quest “My Late Sister’s Accessory”, which sends you to a map location to eliminate bandits and retrieve a dropped item.
This quest might feel underwhelming at first because it only rewards Renown and doesn’t immediately unlock Creek as a recruit. However, sticking with it pays off later on.
During Part 2: War Chapter 2, Creek will now appear as an enemy on the opposing side. If you previously completed his side quest, defeating him will summon Creek to your ranks right after the battle.
With Creek finally part of your party, the path to recruiting his partner Nathan opens up.
To recruit Nathan, make sure Creek is present in your squad during Part 2: War Chapter 3. Midway through this stage, Nathan charges in from the northern map edge, intent on stopping your forces to defend Arago.
The recruitment itself is straightforward: defeat Nathan with Creek. But there’s a crucial catch — Creek must land the killing blow . If anyone else finishes Nathan off, he won’t survive to join you.
If you accidentally have another character deliver the final hit, use Fortuna’s Blessing to rewind and try again, ensuring Creek gets the last strike.
Once Creek takes Nathan down, the red knight immediately becomes a loyal member of your army after the battle ends. While both knights might not remain top-tier compared to your core team by this point, recruiting them enriches your roster and preserves a classic Fire Emblem dynamic.
Creek MUST land the final blow on Nathan for the red knight to survive. All other characters will kill Nathan if they are the one to defeat him. If someone else beats Nathan, you must use Fortuna’s Blessing to rewind and make sure Creek is the one to do it this time.
After Creek beats Nathan, he will officially join your party once the stage ends. While Nathan and Creek will likely be surpassed in power by your main party by the time they join, it’s always nice to recruit as many people as you possibly can during a single playthrough.
