I put this Shashingo Learn Japanese with Photography Guide together to help anyone who wants to unlock all achievements in Shashingo: Learn Japanese with Photography, including the hidden ones and the secret photo-related objectives.
You really don’t need to stress too much about collecting coins early on. As long as you play normally and keep practicing words, you’ll naturally earn enough coins for the gacha machines along the way.
The order in this guide is simply the order that I personally found most efficient for unlocking everything. That said, none of the achievements in the game are missable, so you can technically complete them in any order you like.
Also, since this was my first guide, feedback is always appreciated if something could be explained better.
Taking Pictures / Creating Photo Flash-Cards
There are three achievements related to taking and saving pictures in the game.
To unlock them, you simply need to take pictures and save them to your book. After taking a photo, press the green button to save it as a Photo Flash-Card.
You’ll need to save 100 different pictures in total.
Luckily, there are more than 100 different objects scattered throughout the town, so you shouldn’t have any trouble reaching that number if you explore a bit and photograph things you come across.
I personally recommend focusing on taking pictures early since that helps with progress toward several other achievements later.
Achievements you’ll unlock along the way:
Novice Photographer
Make 10 Photo Flash-Cards.
Amateur Photographer
Make 25 Photo Flash-Cards.
Professional Photographer
Make 100 Photo Flash-Cards.
Flutter by, Butterfly
This one is pretty simple once you know what you’re looking for.
Flutter by, Butterfly
Capture a butterfly.
While exploring the town you’ll eventually come across butterflies flying around. From what I found, there are at least three different butterflies wandering around the area.
They’re not particularly hidden, so you’ll most likely spot one just by walking around normally.
One place where I noticed a butterfly consistently was near the corner leading into the sakura tree alley.
Just take a photo of one when you see it and the achievement should unlock.
Shashinghost (Hidden Achievement)
This achievement is hidden, so if you’re trying to avoid spoilers you may want to skip this section.
Otherwise, this is where the secret ghost-related objective appears in the game.
These Are a Few of My Favourite Words
For this achievement, you need to fill up a double-page spread of favourite Photo Flash-Cards, which means marking 8 words as favourites.
To do this:
- Open your book
- Select any word card
- Click the heart icon in the bottom right
This adds the word to your favourites.
My suggestion here is to favourite words that are easy for you to remember, because you’ll be practicing these later to earn coins more efficiently.
That leads directly into the next achievements.
Pocket Money
This achievement unlocks once you earn 30 coins.
Coins are earned through practicing words.
Press F to start Find Mode, where you can select different practice options. If you want the fastest progress, choose the mode that focuses on favourited words.
Since you already marked easy words earlier, this makes it much easier to practice and earn coins quickly.
Once you reach 30 coins, you’ll be able to buy your first gacha.
You can find several gacha machines in front of the karaoke bar, which is located right next to the tube station where the game begins.
I Gotchu’ Gacha
This achievement unlocks as soon as you buy your first gacha capsule.
If you followed the steps in the Pocket Money section and spent your coins at the machine, this achievement should unlock automatically.
First Steps to Fluency
To unlock this achievement, you need to master a single word.
From what I remember, mastering a word requires guessing it correctly four times in a row while practicing in Find Mode.
This works with any word, so again it helps to practice with the easier ones you added to your favourites earlier.
Word Master
This one is pretty straightforward.
You simply need to master 25 words.
I personally recommend focusing on:
- Words required for the photo border achievements
- Words that are easy for you to remember
Both approaches make the process faster.
Filter Fanatic
This achievement unlocks when you collect 5 filters.
Filters are obtained through the gacha machines, so you’ll need to earn coins and spend them there.
All Filters Unlocked
To unlock every filter in the game, you’ll need to buy 15 gachas in total.
Just keep practicing words, earning coins, and spending them at the vending machines until all filters are unlocked.
Photo Borders
There are two achievements connected to unlocking Photo Flash-Card borders.
To complete these, you need to unlock 12 different borders by mastering certain words in the game.
The original full guide for these borders was created by LikelyLeon, so credit goes to that guide for the complete breakdown.
Instead of linking only to it, I’m including the list of required words here.
You unlock each border by mastering the following words:
- cat
- ghost
- hotel
- movie poster
- balloon
- truck
- ramen restaurant
- manga comic
- traffic cone
- car
- sticker
- camera
Once each of these words is mastered, the corresponding border or frame becomes available.
