Remakes often bring questions about cuts or changes to beloved games, and Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is no exception. While it faithfully preserves every element of the original, the remake quietly weaves in a handful of new quests that add subtle layers to the experience without overwhelming its massive story. This delicate balance keeps fans engaged while maintaining the epic scale they love.

Although the game’s already sprawling scope means there’s little room for massive expansions, a few fresh quests have been introduced. These range from side adventures to a significant main story addition near the climax, giving players something new to look forward to during their journey.

  • Five new side quests scattered throughout the chapters
  • One new main story quest added near the game’s end

So if you’re eager to uncover what these new challenges involve and how they fit into the existing narrative, reading on will reveal every fresh quest and what’s required to complete them.

New Side Quests

The five additional side quests appear in Chapters 1, 3, and 8. Four of them are easily found on the quest board, making them tough to overlook, while one requires chatting with select NPCs to get started. Below is a breakdown of each new quest alongside strategies to complete them efficiently.

Chapter 1 Added Quest – Drawbridge Defect

  • Main Quest Block: The White Shadow 2
  • Reward: 1000 Mira
  • Bonus BP: 2 (+1 for specific answer)
  • Timeframe: Short
  • Expires: After visiting Jenis Royal Academy

This quest is a wholly new addition in the remake. After Olivier joins your party, grab this task from the Bracer Guild quest board. The goal is to investigate mysterious malfunctions affecting the city’s drawbridge, starting with a chat with Chief Portos at Aqua Rossa Bar.

Following the quest markers, question everyone on the bridge about any unusual activity. When asked what caused the problem, selecting Human intervention nets an extra bonus BP, so keep that in mind.

Your next step is to have Kevin join temporarily to douse the area with his grail coin. Focus near the left-side chain on the eastern part of the bridge, where you’ll discover a clue to progress the investigation.

The investigation leads you to the mayor’s house where the bridge’s manual control mechanism resides. Here, you’ll encounter a fleeing monster that runs toward Gull Seaside Way, with Kevin departing your party momentarily to give chase.

Pursue the creature to the seaside path, where Kevin rejoins for a battle against the Jabbabba King and four Red Shumocks. This fight introduces Kevin’s support buffs, such as Sacrifice Arrow and Grail Sphere — using these strategically can make the encounter almost effortless. Defeat the foes to complete this quest.

Chapter 3 Added Quest – Piscine Pilferer

  • Main Quest Block: The Tea Party (Completed)
  • Reward: 3000 Mira
  • BP: 4
  • Timeframe: Short
  • Expires: After leaving Grancel

This sequel quest introduces a theft that’s less ominous than it sounds — someone has stolen a prized silver carp from Grancel Castle. Rest assured, this isn’t set up for a Phantom Thief encounter but adds an intriguing detour.

You’ll venture into the castle sewer with Duke Dunan, so bring a strong party as you won’t be able to leave until the quest wraps up. Early on, a cutscene offers deeper insight into Duke Dunan’s character before a battle with a Whale Frog enemy, which should fall quickly unless your level is low.

At the sewer’s far end, you find the true culprits — a band of Pengus, familiar foes from earlier in the series. The boss fight against King Pengu mirrors previous encounters, so staying healthy and prepared for his Confusion S-Craft is key. Bringing Tita and Kloe helps manage debuffs. Defeating King Pengu concludes this quest.

The battle against King Pengu is a repeat of the one from the Chapter 2 sidequest, so just keep your party healthy and prepare for his Confusion S-Craft as you whittle down his health. I recommend bringing both Tita and Kloe as they can cure debuffs. The quest will end after you win the battle.

Chapter 8 Added Quest 1 – Lugran’s Lifeline

  • Main Quest Block: Zero Field Distribution
  • Reward: 10000 Mira
  • BP: 5 (+1 for specific answer)
  • Timeframe: Medium
  • Expires: After delivering all Zero Field Generators and returning to Grancel

This quest sees you checking in on Ravennue Village after Old Man Lugran asks you to visit. Finding the village well cared for by Bracer Sting brings relief, but Lugran’s health problems start, requiring you to collect monster-based medicinal ingredients — leading you to Orvid’s unique shop and some backtracking.

When Agate asks about the Calvardian ingredient’s location, answering Calvard Embassy earns a bonus BP. Orvid’s monster item shop inside Anterose Restaurant offers the ingredients you need, but you’ll have to search Nebel Valley’s cave to find a rare Dragon Claw, a step that ties back to a boss fight against Ragnard.

At the Calvard Embassy, Cochrane directs you to a merchant in the West Block of Grancel who holds the final ingredient. Though new to this area, the merchant is a familiar face. Purchasing the ingredient completes the ingredient gathering phase and sets the stage to help Lugran.

Now that we know our goal, it’s time to start gathering ingedients. We can find Orvid right here in Bose, as he has set up a monster drop item shop inside of Anterose Restaurant. After buying 1 item from him minimum, you’ll be able to ask him if he knows where to find any Dragon Claws, a rarer version of the Bear Claw mushroom. Luckily, there is exactly one in the country and you can find it via backtracking all the way to the cave in Nebel Valley where you previously fought Ragnard.

Chapter 8 Added Quest 2 – Manoria Byroad Monster

Chapter 8 Added Quest 2 – Manoria Byroad Monster

  • Main Quest Block: Zero Field Distribution
  • Reward: 5000 Mira
  • BP: 5
  • Timeframe: Medium
  • Expires: After delivering all Zero Field Generators and returning to Grancel

This straightforward hunting quest tasks you with taking down three Marionette enemies previously summoned by Bleublanc. The main challenge is their ability to inflict Confuse and Seal, so it’s wise to equip accessories that guard against these status effects. Otherwise, it’s a manageable battle that adds variety to the late-game content.

Chapter 8 Added Quest 3 – Klaudia Tunnel Monster

  • Main Quest Block: Zero Field Distribution
  • Reward: 5000 Mira
  • BP: 5
  • Timeframe: Medium
  • Expires: After delivering all Zero Field Generators and returning to Grancel
