Feed The Pit can become surprisingly difficult once you start chasing achievements, attempting high ranks, and dealing with some of the tougher Challenge Mode presets. Simply finishing the story is one thing, but completing everything in Act 1 requires understanding how monsters, cards, modifiers, and the environment work.

In this post, I will go through the most useful tips for completing Act 1, including the story achievements, Forager achievement, S and F ranks, Challenge Mode achievements, and the difficult Act 1 Master challenge.
We will also look at the different monsters you encounter and how I recommend dealing with them. Knowing when to run, when to use a card, and how to use water, portals, and the map to your advantage can make a huge difference.
Finally, I will cover the Challenge Mode modifiers and explain what you should watch out for with each one. If you are trying to reach 100% completion in Feed The Pit, this guide should help you prepare for some of the more frustrating parts of Act 1.
Feed The Pit Act 1 Guide – Achievements, Tips, Challenge
Before getting into the individual achievements, there are a few things I think every player should know about surviving the story.
When you first arrive around midday, there are no active monsters. This is a good opportunity to explore without pressure. We can look around the map, activate portals, collect mushrooms and fruits, and interact with things we find before the dangerous part of the mission begins.
As you activate cards, time continues moving forward and the monsters become more active and aggressive. Because of this, I recommend taking advantage of the quieter period at the beginning instead of rushing immediately.
If you trigger a Frenzy or have the Little Rabbit chasing you, always try to have an escape plan ready. Cards can be extremely useful because activating one can temporarily remove monsters from the area.
Water is another important survival tool. Monsters cannot enter it, and water can also protect you from fall damage. Just make sure you do not stay underwater too long.
Portals are also incredibly useful. If things start going badly, knowing where the nearest portal is can save a run.
Once you find your target, the situation becomes much calmer because other threats are generally no longer active. At that point, you can take your time and think about how you want to handle the target.
I recommend waiting until the target is reasonably close to the van before finishing them. This can prevent you from ending the chase on the opposite side of the map.
Story Achievements
There are five story-related achievements that you will naturally earn while progressing through Act 1.
Feed The Pit
Achievement: Feed Elijah for the first time
You earn this by completing the first level.
There is not much strategy required here. The first mission is mainly there to introduce you to the mechanics, so use it as an opportunity to understand how exploration, cards, and survival work.
March of the Ents
Achievement: Survive against the Spriggan
This achievement is earned by completing the second level.
The Spriggan can be confusing at first because of the way it affects your awareness.
I recommend regularly checking behind you. If you hear its footsteps, look toward it briefly and then look away.
The important thing to remember is that you should not keep staring at it.
Stay aware of where it is, but do not spend too much time watching it.
Rabbit on the Run
Achievement: Survive against the Little Rabbit
You earn this by completing the third level.
The Little Rabbit can make you lose a lot of valuable time, so creating distance is extremely important.
Use portals when possible, jump into water, travel across ledges, and use the terrain to make it harder for the Rabbit to catch you.
If she tags you, do not waste time standing around. Follow the flowers and pay attention to where you hear her singing.
The faster you react, the easier it is to recover.
Various Forms
Achievement: Survive against the Flesh Thief
This achievement comes from completing the fourth level.
The Flesh Thief can make you question everything around you, but I personally find it easier to manage than some of the other monsters once you understand its behavior.
The biggest rule is simple: do not approach it.
Keep checking behind you because it can sneak closer without you immediately noticing.
Unlike some enemies, staring at the Flesh Thief can actually help keep it at a safer distance.
However, listen carefully. If you hear its bones snapping, that means things are about to become dangerous.
This is your warning that it is entering a Frenzy, so get ready to run or use a card to give yourself some breathing room.
Once it becomes aggressive, it will continue moving toward you instead of maintaining its usual distance.
100 Minutes to Midnight
Achievement: Complete Act 1
This is the final story achievement for Act 1.
Simply complete the game to unlock it.
How to Get the Forager Achievement
Forager
Achievement: Collect 20 mushrooms
You need to collect a total of 20 mushrooms.
Based on the information provided in the guide, this achievement appears to work only in Story Mode, so I recommend collecting mushrooms whenever you see them.
Do not assume you will easily find enough later.
If you spot one during a mission, grab it while you have the chance.
The good news is that your progress carries over between games, so you do not need to collect all 20 during a single run.
Mushrooms also give you a small amount of money, so there is another reason to pick them up whenever possible.
Rank Achievements
Interestingly, getting an S Rank can be much easier than deliberately trying to earn an F Rank.
Top Tier – How to Get an S Rank
Achievement: S Rank a mission
To earn an S Rank, you should aim to:
- Take no damage
- Use no more than 4 cards
The safest approach is to play carefully and avoid unnecessary risks.
However, a damaged run is not always completely ruined.
Bonuses can improve your final result, so even if you take a hit or use more cards than planned, you may still have a chance to recover your rank by completing additional bonus objectives.
wow. – How to Get an F Rank
Achievement: F Rank a mission
For an F Rank, you need to intentionally play badly enough to receive the lowest result.
The requirements include:
- Taking 100% damage and healing yourself
- Using at least 8 cards
- Avoiding too many bonus rewards
This achievement can feel strange because you need to deliberately make decisions that you would normally avoid.
Bonuses That Can Improve Your Rank
Here are some of the bonuses mentioned in the guide:
- Mission Complete: $10
- Touch a Bunny: $7.25
- No Frenzy: $5
- Every Deck: $5
- Touch a Deer: $5
- Fake Tree: $5
- Forager: $2.50
- Many Portal: $2.50
Some of these bonuses are monster-specific, while others come from exploration and general gameplay.
If you are attempting an S Rank, completing extra objectives can sometimes help compensate for mistakes.
Challenge Mode Achievements
Challenge Mode is a good place to complete several achievements at the same time.
Some of these can technically be earned elsewhere, but stacking objectives together can save you time.
New Game Plus
Achievement: Complete any preset in Challenge Mode
Simply complete one Challenge Mode preset.
Poor Inventory Management
Achievement: Use 7 items during a mission
You need to use seven items during one mission. Cards do not count toward this requirement.
BEAN ME!
Achievement: Drink 3 espressos in one mission
A convenient way to complete several of these achievements together is through the NEW GAME+ preset.
Buy three espressos and several regular items, but avoid buying Booster Packs for this specific setup.
Put your items in the van and purchase four additional items.
During the mission:
- Drink all three espressos
- Use at least seven items
- Complete the challenge
This allows you to work toward multiple achievements efficiently.
Chase Card and cEDH Achievement Strategy
Chase Card
Achievement: Pull the Stone Flower from a Booster Pack
cEDH
Achievement: Find the target using 2 or fewer cards
The cEDH achievement cannot be completed during Mission 1.
The easiest strategy is to combine these two achievements.
Choose a preset where you can purchase all three Booster Packs.
Buy them and open them during the mission.
If you do not receive the Stone Flower, restart through the pause menu and try again.
Once you get the Stone Flower, be careful with your remaining card usage.
You can only use two cards for the cEDH achievement, so make sure you have a reasonable idea of where the target could be.
Pay attention to the target information and terrain clues, such as whether the target should be near:
- Rocky terrain
- Water
- Areas away from paths
If you find a Finder card, it can obviously make locating the target much easier, so do not ignore the opportunity to use one.
How to Complete Act 1 Master
Act 1 Master
Achievement: Complete the Act 1 SUFFER preset
This is probably one of the toughest achievements in Act 1.
The SUFFER preset removes more and more of your control and gives you very little room for mistakes.
So instead of trying to play fairly, I recommend using every advantage available.
Step 1: Choose the Flesh Thief
I recommend selecting the Flesh Thief.
The main strategy is to keep it at a distance and never approach it unnecessarily.
As long as you manage its behavior properly, it can be easier to control than some of the alternatives.
Step 2: Reroll Until You Get a Good Map
You can quit back to the menu and reroll the map and target information.
Keep doing this until you get a setup you are comfortable with.
Two useful map situations mentioned in the guide are:
- A map with a railroad and a target near rocky terrain
- A map with a river running from north to south and a target near water or rocky terrain
Having a map you understand can make the challenge much more manageable.
Step 3: Use Your Card Carefully
Take the card and get as much value from it as possible.
After that, you need to decide whether the run is worth continuing.
If things go badly, pause and restart.
There is nothing wrong with trying again until you get a favorable situation.
Step 4: Handle the Target Near the Van
When you begin chasing the target, do not immediately finish them.
Let them move closer toward the van first.
You do not want to defeat them while standing too close and risk getting hit, but you also do not want the chase to end on the opposite side of the map.
Try to find a comfortable position before finishing the target.
Step 5: Finish the Challenge
Once everything lines up, complete the mission.
The challenge is difficult, but favorable map conditions and careful planning can make a huge difference.
Act 1 Master Problems to Watch Out For
Ranger Danger
Being killed in one hit is one of the biggest problems.
If you activate the RANGER DANGER curse, stay away from Rangers and do not take unnecessary risks.
One important thing to remember is that if you are already having a good run and Ranger Danger has not been activated yet, avoid taking cards near Rangers.
You do not want to ruin a strong attempt because of one bad card activation.
Bounty Hunter
The Bounty Hunter can become a serious problem when you are staying in one area and trying to solve the final target box.
You can try to:
- Dodge their attacks
- Take cover
- Run away
- Sneak around them
Another strategy is to lead the Bounty Hunter away from the boxes you need to search and then wait on the other side of the map.
Both approaches are risky, so choose the one that fits your situation.
Bear Traps
Bear traps can kill you in two hits.
Watch the ground carefully, especially when moving through grass.
Spores
Spores can make navigation extremely difficult.
You can sometimes use the spore clouds to understand where you are on the map, but do not spend too much time inside dangerous areas.
If necessary, use a card to reset the spore timer.
Challenge Modifier Tips
Here are my recommendations for dealing with each Challenge Mode modifier.
Armed Target
The target has a gun
Keep some distance during the early part of the chase.
Use trees and other objects as cover.
When you see the target aiming, dodge left or right until they slow down enough for you to safely catch them.
Forest Hazard
Bear traps are scattered throughout the forest
Keep your eyes on the ground.
This modifier becomes especially annoying with NO PATH active or when dealing with monsters that already require you to constantly watch your surroundings.
The good news is that bear traps do not instantly kill you, even when ONE SHOT is active.
However, they can still kill you in two hits.
Rain
A thunderstorm is active
Rain creates a lot of visual and audio distraction.
I recommend turning off music, videos, or anything else playing in the background.
You need to pay attention to the sounds around you.
No Path
Paths are covered by grass
This creates additional visual clutter.
You need to be much more careful about traps and other hazards because they can be harder to notice.
GPS
You do not appear on the map
This is one of the more difficult modifiers.
Try to memorize landmarks and learn the four cardinal directions.
Understanding north, south, east, and west becomes especially useful when using cards and trying to navigate unfamiliar terrain.
Hydrophobic
Touching water causes damage
You can still briefly enter the water for a very short moment before jumping back out.
This can occasionally help in an emergency, but do not stay in the water.
Single Selection
Each deck contains only one card
Look at your available decks and choose the card that best fits your current situation.
You have fewer options, so every choice matters more.
Random Card
All decks are combined
Once again, check your options carefully and select the card that provides the most value for what you are currently trying to do.
No Finder
Finder cards do not appear normally
This modifier can make locating the target much harder.
You need to narrow down which box contains the target.
However, Finder cards can still be found through Booster Packs.
You can also use dice to eliminate additional boxes when only a few possibilities remain.
All Curse
Every card is cursed
Most curses are more annoying than truly dangerous.
However, curses such as Ranger Danger and Unlink Portal can cause serious problems.
If you really dislike dealing with curses, you can buy an item that removes their effects, although other items may provide more useful benefits.
Spores
Deadly spores appear in random areas
This is another difficult modifier.
Do not get lost inside the spores and avoid wasting time in dangerous clouds.
If necessary, teleport to the Cardmaster Realm or activate a card to reset the timer.
Roaming Cardmaster
The Cardmaster moves around the map
This modifier can either help or hurt you.
Sometimes you can allow the Cardmaster to approach a box, especially when certain dangerous modifiers such as EXPLODING CARDS or BOUNTY HUNTER are active.
In some situations, moving the Cardmaster can help lure danger away.
Other times, it is safer to reset their position and avoid creating additional problems.
Exploding Cards
Cards explode after 30 seconds
Once you hear the constant warning sound, you are running out of time.
Use the card before it explodes and try to activate it in the most useful location possible.
Bounty Hunter
Someone is actively trying to kill you
This is one of the hardest modifiers.
The Bounty Hunter constantly follows you, and once they get close enough, they can repeatedly shoot at you.
You can:
- Dodge their shots
- Hide behind cover
- Lead them away from important areas
I recommend trying to keep them away from the boxes you still need to investigate.
Otherwise, you may have to deal with the consequences while searching.
Timer
You have 15 minutes to find the target
This is usually not too complicated.
Keep moving and do not waste time.
Run whenever you need to.
One Shot
Any damage kills you
This is arguably the most dangerous modifier.
Bear traps are an exception because they take two hits to kill you.
However, almost everything else becomes extremely dangerous.
The Bounty Hunter is especially problematic, so avoid getting shot at all costs.
Do not jump from dangerous heights, and avoid touching water when HYDROPHOBIC is active unless you have absolutely no other option.
Getting 100% completion in Feed The Pit Act 1 requires more than simply finishing the story. Some achievements are straightforward, while others require you to deliberately change the way you play.
For the story, I recommend learning how each monster behaves and always having an escape plan ready. Water, portals, cards, and the environment can all help you survive when things become dangerous.
For Challenge Mode, planning ahead is extremely important. Try to combine achievements when possible, learn which modifiers are the biggest threats, and do not be afraid to restart difficult attempts when the map or target information puts you at a major disadvantage.
The Act 1 SUFFER preset can definitely feel frustrating, but using favorable maps, controlling the Flesh Thief, and taking advantage of every available trick can eventually get you through it.
With enough patience and a little luck, you should be able to complete all of the Act 1 achievements and earn your way toward 100% completion in Feed The Pit.
