Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave challenges players to forge unlikely alliances as they navigate treacherous loyalties and fierce battles. Among the most memorable recruits is Goliath, a towering warrior whose strength on the frontline is unmatched. Securing his loyalty, however, demands patience and rare resources, making his recruitment a defining moment for any party looking to bolster their ranks with a true tank.

Reeling Goliath into your fold requires attention to his unique recruitment conditions, which vary depending on the protagonist’s path through the story. Each route shifts the renown you need to achieve and ensures no two players end up with the exact same roster. Here’s how you can meet his terms across the different storylines.

Route Support Level Renown Needed Special Requirement
Cai 3 7 Trade 3 Giant’s Meat
Leda 3 10 Trade 3 Giant’s Meat
Theodora 3 9 Trade 3 Giant’s Meat
Dietrich 3 6 Trade 3 Giant’s Meat

Getting Goliath’s support level to 3 is surprisingly straightforward. Spending time with him at feasts, attending the theater together, and gifting items like Strategy Manuscripts and Volcano Ghosh solidify your bond, quickly turning him from a wary giant into a steadfast ally. But the true hurdle lies in finding the rare material he demands.

The coveted Giant’s Meat drops exclusively from Giants, the game’s rarest enemy type. They consistently drop this item when defeated—except during the Bertrand Paralogue, where they don’t drop anything. Tracking down Giants can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack, as these foes spawn infrequently throughout Fortune’s Weave.

Your best bet for encountering Giants is the region of Pasithea, located in the continent’s southwest. Here, random skirmishes can summon these towering enemies, though their appearances are entirely unpredictable. Unfortunately, unlike other rare enemies such as Sandworms, there’s no known dungeon or reliable spawn point for Giants, adding to the challenge.

For those who dislike waiting for random chances or are playing on Cai’s route (which limits access to Pasithea), another method exists—albeit a slow and uncertain one. Near the southern Aurora’s Temple sits a search spot called the Secret Altar. Here, you can scan for the rare Luxury Meat Crates.

Opening these crates may yield either Giant’s Meat or Sandworm Meat. Patience is key, as it can take numerous attempts to acquire the three pieces needed. This semi-consistent approach proved to be the most reliable for me to gather the necessary materials without relying solely on chance encounters.

Once you’ve collected 3 pieces of Giant’s Meat and met the renown and support thresholds, return to Goliath. He’ll happily abandon his brother Bertrand’s faction to join your team. Known as one of the game’s premier tanks, Goliath brings a unique personal skill that negatively affects cavalry capability, but it’s irrelevant given his role. He excels charging headfirst into battle and refusing to fall, making him invaluable on any frontline.

Once you’ve gotten the Giant’s Meat, make your way back to Goliath and he’ll be more than glad to leave his brother’s team to join up with yours. Goliath is one of the best tank units in the game, no debate. He is also the only character whose personal skill is entirely a debuff as it prevents him from being a cavalry unit. Not that it matters, as Goliath is more than happy with his role of being a guy who charges into the frontline and never dies.
