Last Defense Academy Preferred Gifts Guide

Upgrading Takumi’s grades is crucial for becoming more powerful in Last Defense Academy, and one of the fastest ways to do that is by giving gifts to companions. Knowing which materials to gift and to whom accelerates your progress dramatically, letting you unlock stronger abilities without the grind. Recognizing each character’s preferred gifts is the key to getting the most grade and affinity points.

Every character has eight preferred gifts that grant substantial grade points when received. These gifts not only boost Takumi’s stats more effectively but also increase affinity points after your first playthrough. For instance, gifting Darumi will increase your Creativity points significantly.

The first time you give a preferred gift to a character, it awards 20 grade points. Any subsequent gifts of the same preferred item yield 10 points each time, making it worth tracking which gifts you’ve already given to maximize returns.

Non-preferred gifts provide a modest 6 grade points, so while they still contribute, they are far less efficient and slow down your overall progress.

Normal, non-preferred gifts will give 6 points.

Characters who specialize in two subjects split the reward points between them. For example, Takemaru shares the first preferred gift bonus by awarding 10 points each in Endurance and Mobility, combining for a total of 20 points.

Preferred gifts also provide affinity points—each preferred gift automatically earns 5 affinity points, helping you build relationships faster and unlock deeper character interactions.

To keep track of your gifting progress, consider marking which preferred gifts you’ve already given to each character. This way, you never miss out on first-time bonuses and can plan your resource use efficiently.

You can check the boxes for gifts you’ve already given to remember which ones you’ve already got the first time bonus for!
