Weapons play a much larger role in Mina the Hollower than many players initially realize. While the game starts by letting you choose one of three weapons, there are actually five weapons available throughout the adventure, each with two unique upgrades that can completely change how they perform in combat.
Technically, you can finish the game without collecting every weapon and upgrade, but doing so means missing out on some of the strongest abilities in the game. Certain upgrades dramatically improve mobility, crowd control, boss damage, or utility, making exploration much easier as you progress toward activating all six generators.
This guide covers every weapon, where to find it, and how to unlock both of its upgrades.
Blaststrike Maul
The Blaststrike Maul is one of the three starting weapons available at the beginning of the game. It specializes in heavy strikes, powerful charged attacks, and excellent burst damage.
Obtaining the Blaststrike Maul
If you selected another starter weapon, don’t worry.
You can purchase the Blaststrike Maul from Legovich’s Arms in Ossex for 2,000 Bones.
Alternatively, you can find it for free inside the Swamp Shack located in Big Lagoon within Nox’s Bayou. Players reaching the region naturally during exploration can grab it without spending any currency.
The weapon is particularly effective against heavily armored enemies and targets that are vulnerable to slow but powerful attacks.
Boom Charge Upgrade
Effect:
Hold the attack button longer to unleash an explosive charged strike.
Location:
The Boom Charge upgrade is one of the easiest weapon upgrades to acquire.
Simply visit Legovich’s Arms in Ossex and purchase it for 2,500 Bones.
Once unlocked, the Maul gains much stronger burst potential, making boss encounters significantly easier.
Spin Rush Upgrade
Effect:
After attacking, press the attack button again when Mina flashes to perform a forward hammer dash.
Location:
The Spin Rush upgrade is hidden inside Loner’s Landing: Belowdecks.
This area is located aboard the ship where Mina’s adventure originally began.
Reaching Belowdecks requires returning through Nox’s Bayou and accessing the hidden route back to the ship. Once inside, you’ll find the upgrade locked behind one of the Kear gates alongside another weapon upgrade.
Spin Rush adds excellent mobility and lets the Blaststrike Maul close gaps much faster than before.
Nightstar
Nightstar is another starter weapon and focuses on wide attacks, reach, and crowd control.
Players who enjoy controlling enemy spacing often gravitate toward this weapon.
Obtaining Nightstar
Nightstar can be chosen during character creation.
If you selected a different weapon, Legovich sells it for 2,000 Bones in Ossex.
Dread Mace Upgrade
Effect:
Deals additional damage when enemies are struck by the outer tip of the weapon.
Location:
Purchase it from Legovich’s Arms for 2,000 Bones.
This upgrade rewards proper spacing and significantly improves damage output when used correctly.
Afterstrike Upgrade
Effect:
Holding the attack button releases a second damaging pulse. Continuing to hold extends the attack into a flailing sequence.
Location:
The Afterstrike upgrade is hidden inside a chest in the Ossex Courtyard.
Accessing the chest requires finding a secret tunnel connected to Station Underside.
Many players overlook this route entirely, making it one of the easier upgrades to miss during a first playthrough.
Afterstrike transforms Nightstar into a much stronger crowd-control weapon by adding additional damage opportunities after each swing.
Whisper and Vesper
Whisper and Vesper is one of the most versatile weapons in the game.
Fast attacks, strong mobility options, and powerful upgrades make it a favorite among players who enjoy aggressive combat styles.
Obtaining Whisper and Vesper
You can choose Whisper and Vesper as your starter weapon.
If not, Legovich sells it for 2,000 Bones.
There is also a free version available in the Queensbury Crypt Foyer.
Exploring the crypt carefully allows players to obtain the weapon without spending any Bones.
Lunging Cut Upgrade
Effect:
Press the movement and attack buttons together to perform a forward lunging slash.
Location:
Available for purchase from Legovich’s Arms for 2,000 Bones.
The added mobility helps close distances quickly and improves offensive pressure.
Throwing Dagger Upgrade
Effect:
Hold the attack button to charge and throw a dagger.
While the dagger is thrown, Mina gains increased movement speed but loses access to part of her normal attack capability.
Location:
The Throwing Dagger upgrade is hidden inside Loner’s Landing: Belowdecks.
To reach it, travel to Nox’s Bayou and locate Pinky’s Parlor.
Steal the ladder from the shop and follow the route behind the building.
Continue through the train station area and descend the stairs.
You’ll eventually find an unfinished rope shortcut. Place the ladder to access the upper platform, destroy the wooden obstruction, and continue toward Loner’s Landing.
Cross the barrels and burrow into the ship.
Inside, two upgrades sit behind locked gates.
One contains the Throwing Dagger upgrade while the other contains Spin Rush for the Blaststrike Maul.
Bring at least two Kears before making the trip.
Don’t forget to cut through the seaweed afterward to create a useful shortcut.
Battery Buster
Battery Buster combines ranged attacks with melee combat, making it one of the most flexible weapons in Mina the Hollower.
Players who enjoy adapting to different situations often find Battery Buster extremely useful.
Obtaining Battery Buster
Battery Buster can be purchased from Legovich’s Arms in Ossex for 2,000 Bones.
Burst Shot Upgrade
Effect:
Allows Battery Buster shots to be charged for increased power.
Location:
There are two ways to obtain Burst Shot.
You can purchase it from Panino’s shop in Ossex Station Underside for 3,500 Bones.
Alternatively, it can be found inside a chest in Astral Orrery: Stellarium, one of the final areas of the game.
This upgrade greatly increases ranged damage potential.
Charge Swing Upgrade
Effect:
Allows melee swings to be charged for additional damage.
Location:
Charge Swing is hidden in a chest within Bone Beach’s Worm’s Back region.
The easiest route becomes available after gaining access to the Astral Orrery mirrors.
Use the mirror that transports Mina to the Infested Tent area at Bone Beach.
Once inside, look toward the upper-right section of the room where Mina can jump down onto a purple bouncing platform.
Follow the bouncing path across the area and travel one screen left.
The upgrade chest is waiting at the end of the route.
Many players discover this upgrade late because of how hidden the path is.
Guardian Casket
Guardian Casket is the only weapon that cannot be selected at the beginning of the game.
Unlike the other weapons, it focuses heavily on defense, counterattacks, and utility.
Obtaining Guardian Casket
Purchase the weapon from Legovich’s Arms in Ossex for 2,000 Bones.
Because it becomes available later, many players overlook it despite its unique mechanics.
Coffin Toss Upgrade
Effect:
Double-tap the attack button to throw the shield.
Press the button again to recall it.
Mina can even stand on the flying shield to perform powerful blast jumps.
Location:
The Coffin Toss upgrade is hidden inside a house in Septemburg: Crow Town.
This upgrade dramatically expands traversal options and opens up creative movement strategies.
Grave Counter Upgrade
Effect:
Successfully parrying an attack unleashes a significantly stronger counterattack.
Location:
Purchase it from Panino’s shop in Ossex Station Underside for 3,500 Bones.
Players who enjoy mastering timing-based combat will get enormous value from this upgrade.
Best Weapons for Different Playstyles
Fast and Aggressive Combat
Whisper and Vesper excels for players who prefer speed and mobility.
The combination of Lunging Cut and Throwing Dagger creates an extremely aggressive playstyle capable of quickly overwhelming enemies.
Heavy Damage Builds
Blaststrike Maul remains one of the strongest options for raw damage.
Boom Charge and Spin Rush give it both devastating power and surprisingly good mobility.
Crowd Control and Reach
Nightstar performs exceptionally well against groups.
Its long reach and Afterstrike upgrade allow players to safely control large engagements.
Hybrid Melee and Ranged Combat
Battery Buster offers perhaps the most versatile toolkit in the game.
Both ranged and melee upgrades improve flexibility during exploration and boss encounters.
Defensive and Utility-Focused Play
Guardian Casket is ideal for players who enjoy parries, counters, and creative movement.
Once Coffin Toss is unlocked, the weapon becomes useful for both combat and traversal.
Collecting Every Upgrade
Fully upgrading every weapon requires a significant amount of exploration, multiple visits to Ossex merchants, and access to some of the game’s most hidden locations.
Many upgrades are tucked away in secret passages, optional regions, and hard-to-reach chests that are easy to miss during a normal playthrough.
For players aiming for full completion, it’s worth revisiting earlier regions after gaining new abilities and checking every merchant regularly. By the time all five weapons and their ten upgrades are unlocked, Mina gains access to an enormous range of combat styles that can completely change how the game feels to play.
