If you thought the world of Outbound already felt cozy and full of personality, the hidden gnomes scattered around the map make it even better. One of the coolest little details about the game is that many of these gnomes were inspired by Kickstarter backers and community supporters, which honestly makes finding them feel a lot more personal compared to normal collectibles in other games.

Some are sitting peacefully beside lakes. Others are hidden inside buildings, caves, mountains, or tucked behind random objects you would probably never think to check. A few are extremely easy to miss unless you are exploring very carefully.

If you are trying to fully complete Outbound, finding every gnome is going to take patience, curiosity, and a lot of wandering around the map. Thankfully, this guide walks you through every currently known gnome location in simple beginner-friendly directions so you can find them without losing your mind searching every rock in the wilderness.

At the moment:

  • Biome 1 has all 25 gnomes discovered
  • Biome 2 currently has 8 discovered gnomes

More will likely be added as players continue exploring deeper into the game.

Why Gnomes Matter in Outbound

Unlike crafting materials or workstation unlocks, gnomes are mainly collectible secrets. They are tied closely to exploration and completion progress.

But honestly, they are worth finding for more than just achievements.

Every gnome has:

  • Its own unique design
  • A custom name
  • Personality
  • Funny placement or environment

Some of them are genuinely hilarious once you spot where the developers hid them.

The best part is that hunting gnomes naturally encourages you to fully explore areas you might normally rush through.

Tips Before Hunting Gnomes

Before heading out, here are a few things that make collectible hunting much easier.

Explore Every Landmark Carefully

Most gnomes are hidden around:

  • Windmills
  • Signal Towers
  • Farms
  • Lookout towers
  • Mountains
  • Campsites

If a location looks important, there is probably something hidden nearby.

Look Both High and Low

Some gnomes are:

  • On rooftops
  • Hidden behind rocks
  • Sitting on fences
  • Inside caves
  • Tucked behind machinery

Outbound loves rewarding players who look carefully.

Bring Upgrade Tools

A few gnomes require:

  • Pickaxe upgrades
  • Bridge repairs
  • Vehicle upgrades

You will not be able to collect absolutely everything immediately during the early game.

All Biome 1 Gnome Locations

Biome 1 contains:

  • 25 total gnomes

This biome is honestly packed with secrets. Since you already spend a lot of time here gathering resources, it is a great place to slowly explore while collecting gnomes naturally.

#001 ikookniet

This gnome is hidden inside a cave blocked by Mossrock near the winding incline in the southern area of the map.

To reach it:

  1. Unlock Pickaxe II
  2. Return to the blocked cave
  3. Break the Mossrock barrier

Inside, you will find the gnome waiting for you.

This is one of the later collectibles in Biome 1 because it requires upgrades first.

#002 Gnomey McGnomeface

Located on top of the Windmill greenhouse beside a chair.

This area is also excellent for gathering:

  • Blue Tulips
  • Flower Petals
  • Paint ingredients

So it is worth fully exploring the Windmill area while you are here.

#003 Gary

Inside the blue lookout tower beside the drawbridge.

Easy to miss if you only pass through quickly.

#004 Antiivvan

Found at the base of the waterfall on the left side.

Most players search the wrong side of the waterfall first, so this one tricks a lot of people.

#005 CarMagician

At the top of the mountain lift in the eastern region.

You will eventually reach this area during later exploration and upgrades.

#006 The Western

Inside a workshop beneath a mini blimp.

Use the nearby pulley system to move the blimp and reveal the hidden gnome underneath.

This one feels especially satisfying to uncover.

#007 Darth Raxim MuadDib Sjet

Hidden on a small boulder in the rocky southern area near the starting zone.

Look for:

  • Stone terrain
  • Rocky outcroppings
  • Corner edges

The gnome blends surprisingly well into the environment.

#008 Just a Gnomeal Guy

Near the campsite beside the orange storage box around the four-hill Signal Tower area.

This one sits on the eastern hill.

#009 Klaus Dieter von Zwergenthal

Beside crates on top of the massive metal machine in the eastern mountains.

The name alone already makes this one memorable.

#010 Witch Hazel

On the windowsill of the hidden northern house.

This tiny area contains:

  • A house
  • A well
  • Tulips
  • Small grassy clearing

Honestly one of the coziest hidden spots in the biome.

#011 Jifferey Johnson

Near a mini blimp holder southwest of the farm area.

The nearby farm is also where you unlock:

  • Thread crafting
  • The Spinning Wheel

#012 Tchii

Resting on rocks beside the eastern river.

Crossing the nearby bridge also leads into a strong Fibre farming area.

#013 Gillgear Sardinwhiff

Beside the water on the east side of the upper pond north of the Community Tree.

A peaceful little hiding place.

#014 Haita the Shepherd

Inside the wooden lookout cabin near the entrance to Biome 2.

This one is easier to find once you start preparing to leave the first biome.

#015 LittleAshThings

Sitting on a rocking chair southwest of the Fire Lookout.

Honestly one of the most charming placements in the game.

#016 Indiana Gnomes

On the Windmill balcony.

To reach it:

  1. Enter the Windmill
  2. Climb the stairs
  3. Exit through the balcony door

#017 Lindsey

Beside a wooden crate west of the eastern elevator structure.

Important:

  • You need the upper level
  • Not the lower area

#018 Kobel

Located beside the farm water system.

You must repair at least one broken bridge before reaching this part of the map.

#019 Ratpak

Hidden behind part of the upper trunk of the Community Tree.

This one is extremely easy to overlook because of the tree size.

#020 Pirate Gnome Rustbeard

Inside the house on the western hill surrounding the central four-hill Signal Tower area.

A fantastic name for a gnome honestly.

#021 Banagnome

Found beside a tiny hidden body of water in the southeast corner of the map.

You reach this area after:

  • Upgrading your campervan
  • Driving up the steep incline

Very easy to miss.

#022 UncleGnome

Sitting on the fence near the fishing area.

The fishing icon on the map helps guide you there.

#023 Zacksonius

Southwest of the vehicle charging station.

#024 Grrrreat Scott

Beside the well north of the southern pond area.

#025 Cleeks

At the top of the northern hill in the four-hill cluster.

Look for:

  • Blue picnic bench
  • Campsite campfire

The gnome is sitting nearby.

All Biome 2 Gnome Locations

Biome 2 currently has:

  • 8 discovered gnomes

Before exploring too deeply here, make sure you stop by:

  • Paws & Whiskers Lodge

You can finally adopt your dog companion there.

#026 KingMat

Held up by a wooden log figure near the coastline mountain in the southwest section of the biome.

The placement is honestly hilarious once you see it.

#027 Cameron

On rocks overlooking the southern beach area.

#028 MrSniff

Inside the mailbox outside the lodge entrance.

A very easy gnome to walk right past.

#029 Vato

On the wooden structure in the middle of the crop field near the southern landmark.

#030 Laura

Resting on a rock between three birdhouses behind solar panels in the southeast area.

#031 to #042

Still undiscovered at the moment.

The community is still actively searching for these.

#043 SirShrubby

Overlooking the duck pond on the mountain with the rocky staircase trail.

This area already contains several collectibles and scenic viewpoints.

#044 to #046

Currently undiscovered.

#047 Thrax

Inside the rock circle south of the charging station.

#049 BuzzY

Beside the giant Redwood tree overlooking the pier.

The massive tree makes this area easy to identify once you arrive.

The gnomes in Outbound are honestly one of the game’s best collectibles because they fit perfectly with the relaxing exploration-focused gameplay. Instead of feeling like repetitive checklist objectives, they feel like little rewards for players who take their time and really explore the world carefully.

Some are funny.
Some are clever.
Some are surprisingly difficult to spot.

But all of them add personality to the world and make exploration far more rewarding.

If you are planning to 100% complete Outbound, I would strongly recommend collecting gnomes naturally while exploring instead of trying to rush them all at once. The game feels much more enjoyable that way, and you will usually discover extra resources, hidden areas, cairns, and upgrade materials along the journey too.
