If you thought the world of Outbound already felt cozy and full of personality, the hidden gnomes scattered around the map make it even better. One of the coolest little details about the game is that many of these gnomes were inspired by Kickstarter backers and community supporters, which honestly makes finding them feel a lot more personal compared to normal collectibles in other games.

Some are sitting peacefully beside lakes. Others are hidden inside buildings, caves, mountains, or tucked behind random objects you would probably never think to check. A few are extremely easy to miss unless you are exploring very carefully.
If you are trying to fully complete Outbound, finding every gnome is going to take patience, curiosity, and a lot of wandering around the map. Thankfully, this guide walks you through every currently known gnome location in simple beginner-friendly directions so you can find them without losing your mind searching every rock in the wilderness.
At the moment:
- Biome 1 has all 25 gnomes discovered
- Biome 2 currently has 8 discovered gnomes
More will likely be added as players continue exploring deeper into the game.
Why Gnomes Matter in Outbound
Unlike crafting materials or workstation unlocks, gnomes are mainly collectible secrets. They are tied closely to exploration and completion progress.
But honestly, they are worth finding for more than just achievements.
Every gnome has:
- Its own unique design
- A custom name
- Personality
- Funny placement or environment
Some of them are genuinely hilarious once you spot where the developers hid them.
The best part is that hunting gnomes naturally encourages you to fully explore areas you might normally rush through.
Tips Before Hunting Gnomes
Before heading out, here are a few things that make collectible hunting much easier.
Explore Every Landmark Carefully
Most gnomes are hidden around:
- Windmills
- Signal Towers
- Farms
- Lookout towers
- Mountains
- Campsites
If a location looks important, there is probably something hidden nearby.
Look Both High and Low
Some gnomes are:
- On rooftops
- Hidden behind rocks
- Sitting on fences
- Inside caves
- Tucked behind machinery
Outbound loves rewarding players who look carefully.
Bring Upgrade Tools
A few gnomes require:
- Pickaxe upgrades
- Bridge repairs
- Vehicle upgrades
You will not be able to collect absolutely everything immediately during the early game.
All Biome 1 Gnome Locations
Biome 1 contains:
- 25 total gnomes
This biome is honestly packed with secrets. Since you already spend a lot of time here gathering resources, it is a great place to slowly explore while collecting gnomes naturally.

To reach it:

Located on top of the Windmill greenhouse beside a chair.
This area is also excellent for gathering:

So it is worth fully exploring the Windmill area while you are here.

Inside the blue lookout tower beside the drawbridge.
Easy to miss if you only pass through quickly.

The gnomes in Outbound are honestly one of the game’s best collectibles because they fit perfectly with the relaxing exploration-focused gameplay. Instead of feeling like repetitive checklist objectives, they feel like little rewards for players who take their time and really explore the world carefully.
Some are funny.
Some are clever.
Some are surprisingly difficult to spot.
But all of them add personality to the world and make exploration far more rewarding.
If you are planning to 100% complete Outbound, I would strongly recommend collecting gnomes naturally while exploring instead of trying to rush them all at once. The game feels much more enjoyable that way, and you will usually discover extra resources, hidden areas, cairns, and upgrade materials along the journey too.
