Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive throws you into the action with Sung Jinwoo, but the real depth comes from assembling your own team of hunters. With over twenty characters to unlock, each boasting unique abilities and weapons, knowing who you can add to your roster and how to get them transforms how you approach combat and strategy throughout the game.
Hunters Obtained During the Story
The game initially sets you up with a solid team by introducing three main hunters during the story’s opening chapters. These characters aren’t just story support; they become playable assets you can rely on during optional missions and multiplayer where their skills truly shine.
Lee Joohee
You unlock Lee Joohee after completing Chapter 1. She wields a Gauntlet and takes on the role of a Water Healer. Her robust Max HP of 5418 lets her endure in tough battles, while her Attack (1180) and Defense (1216) make her a reliable support character.
Song Chiyul
Also unlocked by finishing Chapter 1, Song Chiyul is a Fire Mage who uses a Sword. With balanced stats—2807 HP, a strong 2130 Attack, and 1391 Defense—he’s versatile enough for frontline offense and defensive maneuvers.
Yoo Jinho
After you reach Chapter 2, Yoo Jinho joins your team. Equipped with a Sword, he serves as a Light Tank. His health (3826) and particularly high Defense (2172) make him excellent for absorbing enemy damage, even if his Attack (996) is comparatively lower.
Hunters Obtained Via Recruitment
Beyond story characters, the recruitment system opens up around Chapter 4. Visit the bottom floor of the lobby and speak with Lim Hajim to attempt adding new hunters. The process presents three random hunter options each attempt, emphasizing a mix of strategy and luck to diversify your team.
Recruitment isn’t just about picking favorites; you must negotiate by spending Hunter Coins. Each hunter’s recruitment difficulty dictates how many coins are required and the base chance of success. For example, easy recruits cost about 100 coins with a 45% success chance, while hard recruits require 900 coins but only offer a 30% chance. You get three tries before the attempt expires and must start over.
There’s an alternative recruitment shortcut: using rare Bounty Posters to immediately obtain specific hunters. However, these items are scarce and best saved for your must-have characters.
