If you have started progressing deeper into Subnautica 2’s crafting system, there is a good chance you have suddenly run into a recipe asking for Strong Acid. And if that happened, you probably discovered very quickly that finding Necrolei Cysts is not exactly straightforward.

Unlike common materials such as Titanium or Quartz, Necrolei Cysts are tied to a much more specific biome, and the game does not really point you toward them very clearly.

The good news is that there is one fairly reliable early-access location where you can consistently farm them without needing extremely advanced gear or dangerous deep-sea exploration.

Even better, the area is only around 40 meters deep, which makes it surprisingly manageable once you know where to go.

What Necrolei Cysts Are Used For

Necrolei Cysts are primarily important because they are used to craft Strong Acid.

And Strong Acid becomes increasingly important once you start unlocking more advanced technology and crafting systems.

Without spoiling too much progression-wise, this is one of those materials that quietly becomes very important later, so gathering a decent supply early is honestly a smart idea.

What You Should Bring Before Going

The farming route itself is not especially difficult, but a few tools make things much smoother.

I strongly recommend bringing:

  • Survival Multitool
  • Standard Air Tank
  • Air Bladder
  • Flares
  • Wakemakers if available

The Survival Multitool is absolutely required because you need it to harvest the cysts.

The Air Bladder helps enormously if oxygen suddenly gets low while exploring.

And the Flares are honestly extremely useful here because this area contains several aggressive Nibblers that tend to hunt in groups.

If you already unlocked Wakemakers, the extra swim speed helps make the entire trip feel much safer and faster overall.

Where to Find Necrolei Cysts

Start from your Lifepod and swim almost directly north.

You want to stay just slightly off true north while heading outward roughly 280 meters from the Lifepod.

The area sits around 40 meters deep, so compared to some of the more stressful resource runs in Subnautica 2, this one is relatively comfortable depth-wise.

Still, the environment can feel a little eerie as you move farther away from the safer beginner zones.

Watch Out for Nibblers

The main danger in this area comes from the Mangal Nibblers.

If you have not encountered them yet, they are aggressive fish that often attack in small hunting groups. Individually they are annoying, but multiple Nibblers together can quickly become frustrating while trying to gather resources.

Thankfully, they are very easy to distract.

This is exactly why bringing Flares is so useful.

If you hear their strange screeching sounds or see them approaching, simply throw a flare away from yourself. Most of the time, they immediately chase after the flare instead of attacking you.

Honestly, this turns the entire area from stressful into very manageable.

Finding the Wreck Landmark

As you continue northward, you should eventually spot a wreckage area.

This wreck acts as your main landmark.

Once you reach it, continue just slightly farther beyond the wreck while staying in roughly the same direction.

Keep an eye on oxygen during this part because it is easy to become distracted while searching the area.

If needed, use the Air Bladder briefly to surface for oxygen before diving back down.

What the Necrolei Cysts Look Like

Once you reach the correct area, you should begin spotting unusual organic-looking growths clustered around the plant-filled biome nearby.

These are the Necrolei Cysts.

They stand out once you know what to look for, especially against the darker surroundings of the biome.

Use your Survival Multitool to harvest them.

You will usually find several scattered around the nearby plant area, not just one single node, so it is worth searching around carefully before leaving.

Gather More Than You Need

This is honestly one of those resources that is annoying to repeatedly farm.

Whenever you make the trip, collect as many Necrolei Cysts as your inventory comfortably allows.

Future crafting recipes may require more Strong Acid than you expect, and making multiple return trips becomes tedious later.

Tips for a Safer Farming Run

Bring Multiple Flares

Nibblers are not terrifying, but they absolutely become irritating without distractions.

Farm During Daytime

Visibility helps a lot for spotting the cyst clusters quickly.

Use the Wreck as Your Reference Point

The wreck makes navigation much easier during future trips.

Keep Oxygen Awareness High

Even shallow dives can become dangerous if you get distracted gathering resources.

Necrolei Cysts are one of those materials that can feel almost impossible to locate until someone points you toward the correct biome. Thankfully, once you know this northern farming route, gathering them becomes much more manageable.

The area is relatively shallow, the dangers are fairly controllable, and the resource nodes are concentrated enough to make the trip worthwhile.

And honestly, compared to some of the much scarier late-game material farming runs in Subnautica 2, this is a pretty calm expedition once you understand the route.
