In the world of Elin, becoming a gourmet farmer isn’t just about planting and harvesting crops—it’s a lifestyle that enhances your character’s attributes permanently. Farming here offers a rewarding cycle of nurturing plants and preparing delicious food that directly boosts your stats, making it essential knowledge for players wanting to gain an edge.

Elin Gourmet Farmer Guide

This comprehensive approach explores Elin’s unique farming mechanics. While playing a Farmer class maximizes these benefits, any character can adopt these tactics to become an effective gourmet farmer by carefully balancing cultivation and consumption.

The pursuit of better food is at the heart of a Gourmet Farmer’s journey. Constantly refining what you grow and eat leads to lasting attribute boosts and a deeper connection to the land.

By consistently eating high-quality meals, you enhance your attributes permanently. Each time hunger strikes, there’s an opportunity to consume food that increases stats, reinforcing why careful meal preparation is as critical as farming itself.

The Beginner Gourmet

The Beginner Gourmet

Be vigilant about what you consume. Food can either raise or lower your attributes, so managing your hunger state is crucial to gaining the most from what you eat.

When starving, any food will do, but if not, prioritize tasting excellent food. The “Hungry” state improves nutrient absorption, yet staying “Filled” benefits those with plenty of quality food to consume.

Messages like “You begin to feel good when being hit hard. Delicious! You smack your lips.” indicate attribute increases such as Endurance, signaling the success of your meal choices.

The above text shows what can happen when you eat something that increases Endurance.

Noticing powerful monsters drop corpses with varying effects underscores the benefit of hunting bigger prey to incorporate into your farming lifestyle, enhancing the quality of food available.

Purchasing quality food from vendors is an efficient way to get started, but the ultimate goal remains producing your own delicious and nutritious foods through farming and cooking.

Attributes & Skills

Understanding the Farmer class’s core attributes reveals the foundation for a successful gourmet farmer, highlighting the balance of Learning, Strength, Endurance, Will, and Dexterity.

Farmer: Attributes

Learning leads the pack, followed by Strength and Endurance, supporting a character with balanced HP and MP suitable for agrarian life and combat.

With these attributes, the Farmer has fair HP and good MP amounts.

Farmers excel with two-handed melee weapons. Equipping a one-handed weapon in your right hand without a shield lets you wield it two-handed, increasing damage potential.

Remember to place your weapon in the right-hand slot; failing to do so means you’ll be fighting with your fists rather than your blade.

Farmer: Feats

Farmers have exclusive feats that enhance stamina conservation and provide nutritional insight, such as:

Farming Legs (2): Grants a chance to negate stamina loss from activities, making your workdays more efficient and stamina management less stressful.

  • Adds a chance to negate stamina loss. This affects anything that consumes stamina, and means that your stamina lost per work-day can vary randomly.

Gourmet (1): Displays detailed nutritional information on food items when hovered over, aiding informed choices.

  • Enables nutritional information to be shown when hovering over food items.

Skill: Farming (5)

Distinguishing between Farming and Gathering is key. Farming, using a sickle on plants, increases the chance of obtaining and improving seeds. Gathering, using an axe, speeds up collection but affects seed quality less.

Farming relates to using the sickle on plants, and raises the chance to gather improved seeds.

Gathering relates to using the axe. and raises the speed of collection.

Farming skill directly impacts the maximum level seeds can reach and your efficiency with the sickle. Higher Farming means better crops and more valuable nutritional outcomes.

With a very high Farming level, we can grow crops that have very large bonuses.

Skill: Cooking (4)

Cooking skill enhances meal quality, adding powerful bonuses to dishes. Sticking to recipes within your skill level maximizes success and reduces the risk of ruining food.

As cooking skill increases, it lowers the chance of failure—essential so your hard work isn’t wasted just before enjoying your meal.

Also, Cooking skill reduces the chance of failure when cooking. It’s a catastrophe for our dish to be ruined just before we get to eat it!

Skill: Riding (3)

Riding skill improves mount speed, an important factor for efficient farming. Horses, though expensive, are vital partners in farming since you can feed and boost their attributes too.

You can buy horses in Yowyn for 7000 orens, which is expensive. Or, you can try your luck with a Monster Ball on a wild horse.

Obtaining a horse early accelerates travel and resource gathering. Until then, travel in winter to preserve farming efficiency and minimize lost time.

Before you have a horse, consider travelling far only in winter, because otherwise you will be losing out on precious farming time.

Skill: Regeneration (3)

Regeneration determines how quickly you recover health naturally and with bandages, which is crucial for lasting through combat encounters during farming excursions.

Make no mistake, this is a combat skill. The point of Regeneration is to heal faster than enemies can hurt. Combined with good PV and DV values given from your armour, your Regeneration sets the speed at which you can take damage.

Be sure to use bandages for the greatest effect.

Skill: Faith (2)

Increasing Faith raises the upper limit of religious favor you can gain. Kumiromi is a recommended deity for Farmers due to compatibility with the farming lifestyle.

I recommend Kumiromi, due to their compatibility with Farmer. Check out the Religion section for my thoughts on other gods.

Other Starting Skills

Alongside specialty skills, you start with Lumberjacking, enhancing your ability to collect and improve resources from trees, and Carpentry, critical for building your farm infrastructure.

Lumberjacking

Works the same way as Farming, but for trees and uses the axe. The higher your lumberjacking, the more likely you are to both collect seeds and improve those seeds upon harvest.

Carpentry

Highly valuable, as you’ll be crafting much of your own furniture, walls and floors. Affects the quality of furniture.

What other skills should I learn first?

You can buy new Trained skills using Platinum Coins, which will allow you to gain experience in the new skill. You need to pay 5 coins to unlock a skill.

Expanding your skillset by purchasing training with Platinum Coins lets you learn important weapon and farming-adjacent skills essential for a balanced gourmet farmer role.

Learn: Weapon Skills

Weapon choice should align with your chosen religion for maximum effectiveness. For instance, Kumiromi devotees benefit from Scythes, while Jure followers lean towards Polearms. Otherwise, prioritize weapons scaling with your Strength or Endurance.

Otherwise, pick a weapon that is under Strength or Endurance.

Learn: Other Farming Skills

There are some other farming skills that are highly useful to have. As you accumulate Platinum Coins to spend on training, start to pick these up.

Taming: Boosts your bond with animals during shearing or milking and enhances product quality. Livestock recruitment occurs via eggs or Monster Balls.

Enables you to gain more friendship with animals when shearing and milking, and improves the quality of products.

For actually recruiting livestock, that is done either through finding eggs, or by using Monster Balls.

Fishing: Essential if you worship Ehekatl, fishing supplements Dexterity and sometimes Strength through fatty fish, adding variety to your farming yields.

If you’re a Ehekatl worshipper, this is a must. Otherwise, it is optional. Fish provide both Dexterity and sometimes Strength due to their fattiness. Fishing is another thing you can easily do from your land, and you can cook the fish!

Weaving: Valuable for Yumiromi worshippers, weaving skill supports efficient use of wool and other fiber materials from animals.

Quite useful, especially for Yumiromi worshippers. If you intend to shear animals, certainly pick this up.

Tools

Tool weight and material hardness critically affect your farming efficiency. Initial granite tools are durable but heavy; upgrading to lighter, harder materials improves speed and reduces fatigue.

The Hardness of a tool affects the speed it can work at. You want to re-make your tools in a higher hardness when you have access to better materials.

Sickle

Sickle

The sickle is your key tool for harvesting plants and creating seeds. Its quality and your Farming skill impact seed improvement and plant yield.

Hoe

The hoe tills land, preparing soil for planting. While its direct effect beyond enabling watering is unclear, it’s a necessary farming implement best stored in a toolbox when not in use.

I’m not sure if this has any effect, aside from making the tile valid for watering.

If you’re not actively hoeing, there’s not much reason to carry this around into a Nefia. Make yourself a toolbox and put it in there.

Shovel

Used to clear grass layers to reveal soil, the shovel readies terrain for plowing. Like the hoe, it’s not always needed on expeditions but is essential for farm maintenance.

Like the hoe, there’s not much reason to lug this around. Put it in a box when not using.

Watering Can

Fill the watering can from a pond to hydrate crops efficiently. Right-click a plant, and your character will automatically water all plants needing attention on your farm.

Bottomless Pot

A bottomless pot lets you move water sources like pond tiles, providing greater control over farm irrigation setups.
