Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave delivers a rich cast of characters, including a handful of healers critical to surviving its tactical battles. Among them, Ultand stands out—not merely for automatically joining one route’s protagonist but because she can be recruited by other characters too. Getting her on your team early adds valuable healing, especially during grueling corridors in later chapters.
Recruiting Ultand depends heavily on which route you’re playing since each protagonist gains access to different characters at unique times. Understanding the specific requirements per route ensures you tap into her support as efficiently as possible without waiting too long.
Here’s how Ultand’s recruitment conditions break down across the four main routes in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave:
| Route | Support Requirement | Renown Requirement | Special Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cai | Story Recruitment | Story Recruitment | Story Recruitment |
| Leda | 3 | 8 | Clear the “Ultand’s Request” Side Quest |
| Theodora | 3 | 6 | Clear the “Ultand’s Request” Side Quest |
| Dietrich | 3 | 5 | Clear the “Ultand’s Request” Side Quest |
Dietrich and Theodora can recruit Ultand quite early by fulfilling the support and renown levels, while Leda has the longest wait despite her already having multiple healers on her team. Cai’s route is the only one where she joins automatically as part of the story, making her instantly available there.
Once you’ve hit the necessary support and renown milestones, Ultand offers a side quest called “Ultand’s Request”. Completing it is the final step before she willingly joins your ranks.
This quest tasks you with retrieving a cherished gift from Ultand’s mother, stolen and hidden away by thieves. You’ll find it within Corroios Fort Ruins, a dungeon northwest of Dagison. The gift isn’t dropped by enemies or hidden in chests; instead, look for a glowing collection spot inside the ruins.
After securing the gift, return it to Ultand to complete her recruitment. While she might not be the strongest healer in the game, her personal skill that passively restores health to nearby allies makes her a handy unit when navigating tight corridors and crowded maps during the game’s middle chapters.
After collecting her Mother’s Gift, return to Ultand and she’ll join your party! Ultand’s sadly not one of the best units in the game but her personal skill will automatically restore a small amount of health to units adjacent to her, making her a semi-good unit for maps where you’ll be moving units through tight corridors in Parts 2 and 3.
