Years after its original release, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt remains a monumental RPG loved by millions, so any new content instantly sparks excitement. When CD Projekt Red announces a fresh expansion—Songs of the Past—you know it’s a big deal, especially given it’s the first new story addition since 2016’s Blood and Wine. Fans want to dive back into Geralt’s world, ready to face new challenges and unravel more tales in this richly crafted universe.

CD Projekt Red unveiled Songs of the Past through their official social channels, dropping a teaser and confirming it’s coming in 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The announcement hints that the expansion will expand the narrative surrounding Geralt, but we’ll have to wait until late summer for a detailed look at gameplay features, story developments, and system specs.

Medallion’s humming… that can only mean one thing! It’s time to announce The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past! ⚔️ — The Witcher (@thewitcher.com)

The original The Witcher 3 launched back in May 2015, backed by acclaimed expansions Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. Together, these add-ons provided over 30 hours of fresh content and unforgettable quests. More recently, the base game got enhancements like ray tracing and quicker loading times on current-gen consoles, boosting the experience beyond its original release.

For Songs of the Past, CD Projekt Red has yet to finalize pricing or an exact date beyond 2027. The expansion will be sold standalone, separate from the Complete Edition, which is great news if you want to jump in without repurchasing everything. The developers also plan to update system requirements to support this new content, so keep an eye on those once more info drops.

This expansion marks a notable return to Geralt’s story after a long hiatus, following the closure of his saga in Blood and Wine. Meanwhile, the studio is hard at work on The Witcher 4—codenamed Polaris—which remains in development. Songs of the Past gives fans a new chance to explore Geralt’s world before the next chapter arrives.

CD Projekt Red promises to reveal further information about Songs of the Past at a future event, so prepare for more news regarding story details and gameplay additions in the coming months.
