In the intense bullet hell sequences of Touhou Koumakyou: New Classic – The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, extra challenges keep players coming back long after finishing the main story. One such hidden gem is the Extra Stage, which tests the limits of your skills with devastating patterns and formidable foes. Unlocking this stage not only extends your gameplay but also unlocks a piece of Touhou’s storied history that fans treasure.
The Extra Stage features the formidable Derangement of Scarlet Devil ~ Sister of Scarlet, a tough new fight accessible right from the main menu once unlocked. Gaining access to this challenge requires entering a classic cheat code on a specific menu screen, a neat nod to old-school game secrets that older fans will appreciate.
How to Unlock the Extra Stage in TH6: New Classic
1. Open the Score Menu
Launch the game and arrive at the main menu. Here, navigate using the arrow keys and highlight Score.
Press Enter to access the Score menu, where you can review your progress and unlockables.
2. Open the Lunatic Records
Within the Score menu, you’ll see Dream Records showing your score and spell card results across difficulties.
Scroll down using the arrow keys until you reach Lunatic — View Records and press Enter.
3. Enter the Cheat Code
While on the Lunatic Records screen, simply type the cheat code classiclager using your keyboard.
You don’t need to open any special cheat menu—just type directly on the screen, reminiscent of classic cheat entry methods from vintage games.
Upon entering the code, the screen will momentarily shuffle to indicate a successful input.
Listen for a distinctive 1UP sound separate from the background music, confirming the extra stage has been unlocked.
4. Start the Extra Stage
Press Escape to return to the Dream Records screen.
Use the arrow keys to select Quit and press Enter to go back to the main menu.
At the main menu, you’ll now find the new Extra Start option available.
Select Extra Start and press Enter to dive straight into the Derangement of Scarlet Devil ~ Sister of Scarlet stage.
If the Code Does Not Work
Ensure you are typing classiclager on the Lunatic — View Records screen specifically. Typing it elsewhere will have no effect.
This cheat method has been confirmed functional on the PC version of the game.
Console players might face issues entering the code due to lack of keyboard input. Connecting a USB keyboard may enable the code entry, but it’s less straightforward than on PC.
