Let’s get straight into it. This is your free-to-play mounted PvP setup for Evony: The King’s Return, and I’m keeping it exactly how I run it and how I’ve seen it work consistently.

This is not about civ gear, not about long-term whale setups. This is what you can actually build and use.
First Thing You Need to Understand – The Two F2P Paths
Before you even touch the forge, you need to know what direction you’re going.
You’ve got two routes:
1. Attack Path
- Dragon → Ares → Imperial
- Focused on raw mounted damage
2. Debuff Path
- Achaemenidae → Parthian (Paththeon)
- Focused on weakening enemy stats
Both are fully forgeable as F2P. No excuses there.
Requirements You Cannot Ignore
- K30 → Unlock Dragon gear
- K33 → Unlock Achaemenidae (Amenaday) gear
If you’re not there yet, that’s your first goal. Nothing else matters until you hit those milestones.
Hybrid Setup (This Is Where It Gets Important)
You’re not running full sets. That’s the mistake a lot of people make.
We’re doing:
- 2-piece + 2-piece + 2-piece
That way you stack:
- Set bonuses
- Individual stat boosts
This is where the real strength comes from.
The Exact Mounted PvP Build (6 Pieces)
This is the setup, piece by piece. No guessing.
1. Helmet – Dominant Paththeon
Start with:
- Achaemenidae Helmet → upgrade into Paththeon
What you get:
- Mounted troop attack boost
- Ground troop debuffs
Once upgraded:
- ~25% mounted attack
- +12% all troop attack from 2-piece bonus (when paired with ring later)
2. Armor – Courageous Ares
Start from:
- Dragon Armor → upgrade to Ares
Stats:
- Mounted attack
- Mounted defense
- Mounted HP
This is your first Ares piece.
3. Legs – Fearless Ares
Same process:
- Dragon Legs → upgrade to Ares
Now with 2 Ares pieces:
- +15% mounted attack set bonus
This is where your damage starts feeling real.
4. Boots – Majestic Imperial
This one is a two-step upgrade:
- Dragon → Ares → Imperial
Important:
You must upgrade both Imperial pieces together later to activate the bonus.
Stats:
- Mounted attack
- Mounted defense
5. Ring – Dominant Paththeon
Start:
- Achaemenidae Ring → upgrade to Paththeon
This gives:
- Big mounted defense boost
- Completes your 2-piece Paththeon set
Result:
- +12% all troop attack
6. Weapon – Imperial Spear
Start:
- Dragon Spear → Ares → Imperial
Stats:
- High mounted attack
- Mounted HP + defense
With boots:
- Activates Imperial 2-piece bonus
Final Set Bonus Breakdown
Once everything is in place:
Paththeon (2-piece)
- +12% all troop attack
Ares (2-piece)
- +15% mounted troop attack
Imperial (2-piece)
- +18% attacking troop attack
- +mounted defense
Important Upgrade Rule (Do NOT Mess This Up)
When upgrading:
- Don’t mix Ares + Imperial randomly
- Always upgrade in pairs
Example:
- Take both pieces to Ares first
- Then both to Imperial
Otherwise:
- You lose the set bonus
Forge Priority (How You Should Actually Build This)
If you’re starting fresh:
- Helmet (Paththeon)
- Armor (Ares)
- Legs (Ares)
- Boots (Ares → Imperial later)
- Ring (Paththeon)
- Weapon (Ares → Imperial)
Focus on getting the 2-piece bonuses early, not rushing full upgrades.
