Azami Kiryu’s Side Story in Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake is one of the more interconnected tales, relying on earlier quests to unlock and reveal its full narrative. It intertwines with several key plot points, especially involving her sister Akane and the haunting village children. Tracking down Azami’s ghost demands attention to detail and completion of specific side stories, making it a compelling challenge for players hunting down every secret.
Once you’ve finished the Children at Play Side Story, Azami will appear on the small bridge connecting Eikado Temple to the village. Interact with the journal she leaves behind to gain directions to the Cemetery located to the left of Mikado Hill, setting you on the path to uncover her mystery.
You won’t be able to find Azami in the Cemetery just yet — you must complete Akane Kiryu’s Side Story first. Without this, the path is blocked, and your search ends prematurely. After finishing Akane’s story, you’ll receive a photo that unlocks a path to Azami’s Grave. Here, you can pick up another journal, which prompts Azami’s ghost to manifest.
Following Azami triggers a final battle against the three village children scattered around the Cemetery. Unlike earlier fights, they don’t immediately hunt you together, allowing you to methodically engage them one by one. Standing still and avoiding aggro on the other two is a smart tactic if you want to avoid a chaotic three-on-one battle.
Attempt to follow Azami and you will be put into a battle against the three village kids one final time. Unlike the other fights against them though, they aren’t immediately aware of your location and are spread throughout the cemetery. So if you aren’t feeling like fighting all three at once you can pick them off one by one by standing still and not agro-ing the other two.
After defeating all three children, equip your Exposure Lens and explore another corner of the Cemetery to find a final Remnant of Azami. Photographing her here grants you a final journal entry that ties up the story of Azami, Akane, and the village children, delivering a satisfying conclusion to this haunting tale.
