Pets in AION 2 are not only there to follow your character around. They are an important part of character progression because they provide passive stat bonuses and additional effects. With a large collection of pets available across Atreia, knowing where to find them can save a lot of time.

There are 200 pets divided into five groups: Special, Cogni, Fera, Natura, and Varian. Some can be obtained from monsters, while others require Reward Chests, Black Cloud Merchants, special shops, passes, or other late-game content.

The quickest path to starting your pet collection is hunting monsters throughout Atreia. Defeating specific creatures drops Souls that, when collected, unlock these monsters as pets. Here’s how it breaks down:

One of the easiest ways to start collecting pets is by hunting monsters throughout Atreia. Certain monsters can drop their own Souls when defeated, allowing you to gradually register that creature as a pet. The basic process works like this:

  • Locate and defeat the monster you want as a pet.
  • Pick up its Soul dropped after defeat.
  • Collect a total of 5 Souls from the same monster.
  • Once five Souls are gathered, that pet joins your collection automatically.

Keep in mind that not all pets come from combat. Some show up in various Reward Chests—like Mysterios and Growth Chests—or are available for purchase through Black Cloud Merchants or special Pet Soul Chests, especially for non-Special categories.

How Pet Upgrades Work

Every pet starts at Level 1 when added to your collection. Their power grows by gathering more of their Souls, which upgrades their Genus Insight and unlocks new abilities.

The progression works as follows:

  • Registering a pet requires 5 Souls.
  • Level 2 is unlocked after 25 additional Souls.
  • Collecting 75 more Souls caps the pet at Genus Insight Level 10.
  • Pets gain the ability to Transform once they reach Level 3.

Expanding your pet collection also benefits your character broadly, boosting your overall Insight Level and granting Owned Effects that enhance your passive stats — making pets a genuine part of your growth strategy.

AION 2 Special Pets

Special Pets are a unique breed, not obtained from monster drops. Instead, they require specific methods like purchases, passes, or late-game content to unlock, adding an exclusive flair to your collection.

The current Special Pet list includes:

Current Special Pets include:

  • Pagati: Buy from Tsenka Merchants for 2 million Bound Kina or from the Advance: Pet Chest.
  • Black Dragon: Reachable through Daeva’s Chest of Might.
  • Swift Lugi: Available via Daeva Pass Season 1.
  • Wandering Merchant Lugi: Purchase from the Shugo Festival Pets Trade Shop.
  • White Bunny: Sold at the Atelier Shop.
  • Chonky Hamster: Also at the Atelier Shop.

Because of their special acquisition methods, these pets may take more planning to obtain compared with normal combat pets.

AION 2 Cogni Pets

Among regular pets, Cogni are a major group found through combat drops, Reward Chests, and rotating Black Cloud Merchant inventories. Some, however, come only from chests or merchants, making exploration and shop visits crucial.

Which Pets Should You Collect First?

There isn’t a single must-have pet that overshadows all others in AION 2. Because every pet adds to your Insight Level and offers passive boosts, expanding your collection steadily is more beneficial than chasing just one standout pet.
For newcomers, the best strategy is to hunt enemies during your normal leveling route. Combat drop pets are among the simplest to obtain and help you start building your collection early.
Don’t overlook Reward Chests and the Black Cloud Merchants’ ever-changing stock either. These sources unlock pets that combat alone won’t provide, so keep checking them regularly to fill gaps in your collection.
Collecting pets is more than cosmetic flair—each pet’s passive bonuses directly support your character’s growth. Increasing your Insight Level through diverse pet ownership stacks meaningful benefits that complement your playstyle.
