Tyke, the Security Chief, is one of the major boss encounters you will face while progressing through the Gallery in Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault. After making your way through the Treasury Halls, you will eventually come face-to-face with this jetpack-equipped boss and his increasingly dangerous arena mechanics.

In this post, I will show you how to defeat Tyke, the Security Chief, including what attacks to watch for in every phase, how the purple orb mechanic works, and when you should switch from ranged attacks to melee damage. The fight becomes more complicated as the arena changes, so knowing what is coming makes a huge difference.
The main thing I learned during this fight is that you should not try to chase Tyke around the arena with melee attacks. He spends much of the battle flying out of reach, making your gun extremely important. Save your melee damage for the moments when you successfully break his shield and stun him.
Moonlighter 2 The Endless Vault Tyke Security Boss Guide
Before entering the boss fight, I recommend preparing the same way you would for the previous major encounters.
First, get as many useful upgrades as possible from Eris. You should also upgrade your weapon and make sure your Patches (Julius) are upgraded before heading into the Treasury Halls.
While progressing through the rooms before the boss, try to pick perks that increase your damage. Having at least one useful status effect can also make the fight easier.
My main recommendation is to prioritize:
- Damage upgrades.
- Weapon upgrades.
- Useful status effects.
- Perks that improve your overall combat damage.
Tyke moves around constantly, so the more damage you can deal during your limited attack windows, the faster the fight becomes.
Tyke Boss Fight Strategy
The Tyke fight is divided into three main phases.
The basic strategy stays similar throughout the encounter:
- Use your gun while Tyke is flying.
- Dodge his arena attacks instead of forcing melee damage.
- Watch for the purple orb.
- Attack the orb to send it back toward Tyke.
- Break his shield and stun him.
- Move in and deal as much melee damage as possible.
The later phases add more attacks and make the purple orb mechanic more complicated, but this basic strategy remains the key to winning.
Phase 1
At the beginning of the fight, Tyke uses his jetpack and spends most of his time flying around the arena.
Because he is constantly moving through the air, your gun should be your primary source of damage during this phase.
Damage Tyke Before Killing the Summoned Enemies
Tyke begins the fight by summoning two enemies.
Before immediately defeating them, I recommend using your gun to deal some damage to Tyke first. After that, defeat the summoned enemies to help recharge your gun ammunition.
This gives you a better opportunity to continue using ranged attacks while Tyke remains airborne.
Avoid the Portal Lasers
One of Tyke’s main attacks involves summoning two portals that fire laser beams across the arena.
Fortunately, the attack is telegraphed before the lasers actually fire.
You will see a red outline showing where the attack is about to land. As soon as you see the warning, move away from the marked area.
The lasers themselves are not too difficult to avoid as long as you pay attention to the red indicators instead of focusing entirely on attacking the boss.
Watch Out for the Explosions
Tyke can also fly around the arena while moving up and down and leaving explosions behind him.
The good thing about this attack is that his movement gives you a fairly clear indication of where the explosions are going to appear.
Instead of chasing him, watch his flight path and move away from the areas he is about to pass through.
Nine Ground Laser Circles
Another attack creates nine circles on the ground.
These circles eventually emit lasers, so you need to move out of the dangerous areas as soon as they appear.
Tyke can repeat this attack multiple times during the phase, so do not relax immediately after avoiding the first set.
Keep moving and wait for the next opening to damage him.
Deflect the Purple Orb to Break His Shield
Eventually, Tyke will activate his shield and throw a large purple orb toward you.
This is one of the most important mechanics in the entire fight.
Do not simply dodge the orb.
Instead, attack the purple orb to deflect it back toward Tyke.
If you successfully send it back into him, you will:
- Break his shield.
- Stun Tyke.
- Create a large opening for melee attacks.
As soon as he is stunned, move in and deal as much melee damage as possible before he recovers.
This mechanic is your biggest opportunity to deal heavy damage, so make sure you take advantage of it every time.
Phase 2
After the first phase, Tyke changes the layout of the arena.
You will now have four separate squares where you can safely stand.
Moving between these squares requires careful dodging, so positioning becomes much more important during this phase.
Deflect the Purple Orb Multiple Times
Tyke remains positioned at the top of the arena with his shield active.
Once again, he throws a purple orb toward you.
Attack it to deflect it back toward him, but this time the mechanic becomes more complicated.
Tyke will deflect the orb back at you.
The game marks the square where the orb will land, so you need to quickly move to that location and attack the orb again.
Successfully deflecting it back will break his shield and stun him.
Once he is stunned, you get another excellent opportunity to move in and attack with melee weapons.
Tracking Portal Lasers
The portal laser attack becomes more dangerous in Phase 2.
Instead of simply firing from a fixed location, the portals can now move and track your position.
You will need to dodge through or away from the attacks instead of just stepping out of a clearly marked area.
Try not to panic and spam your dodge.
Watch the movement of the lasers and dodge at the right moment.
Flying Shockwaves and Grenades
Tyke also gains another attack where he flies across the arena in lines while leaving shockwaves behind him.
He can also throw grenades with marked landing locations.
The grenades are dangerous because they create another shockwave after impact.
Watch the ground for the landing indicators and move away before the grenade hits.
Then be ready to avoid the shockwave that follows.
Keep Using Your Gun
During this phase, your strategy should remain mostly the same.
Keep dodging the new attacks and use your gun whenever Tyke is flying around and difficult to reach.
Eventually, he will throw another purple orb.
That is your signal to focus on the deflection mechanic again.
Successfully send the orb back, break his shield, and then use your melee attacks while he is stunned.
Avoid the Pink Projectile Barrage
After recovering from one of the stun windows, Tyke can unleash a barrage of pink projectiles.
This attack can look overwhelming at first because there are so many projectiles moving across the arena.
The best strategy is not to rush.
Instead, slowly move through the gaps between the projectiles.
Look for the safest opening and carefully work your way through instead of trying to dodge wildly in every direction.
A calm movement through the gaps is much safer than panicking and accidentally running into another projectile.
Phase 3
Tyke changes the arena layout one more time during the final phase.
This phase is the most dangerous because the available space becomes more restricted.
The Single-Square Arena
At the beginning of Phase 3, you may only have one square to stand on.
Tyke can perform the portal laser attack again during this section.
You can still dodge the lasers, but you need to be extremely careful.
The arena has very little room for mistakes, and moving too far can cause you to fall out and take damage.
Focus on controlled dodges rather than unnecessary movement.
The Nine-Square Arena Returns
After the initial attack, the arena changes again into a nine-square layout.
Tyke will continue using the purple orb mechanic.
You still need to attack the orb and send it back toward him.
However, the mechanic is tougher this time because Tyke does not immediately become stunned after a single successful deflection.
Repeat the Orb Mechanic Twice
During Phase 3, you need to repeat the purple orb deflection process multiple times.
The second attempt is particularly dangerous because Tyke reduces the number of available squares where the orb can land.
This means you need to react quickly and move toward the correct landing location before the orb arrives.
Once you successfully complete the required deflections, Tyke will finally become stunned.
This is your biggest opportunity to finish the fight.
Move in immediately and deal as much damage as possible.
How to Beat Tyke Easily
The fight becomes much easier if you remember one simple rule:
Use ranged attacks while Tyke is moving and save your melee damage for his stun windows.
Trying to constantly chase him around the arena wastes time and can put you directly into dangerous attacks.
Here is the strategy I recommend:
Keep Your Distance While He Is Flying
Tyke’s jetpack keeps him out of easy melee range for much of the fight.
Use your gun instead of chasing him.
You can continue dealing damage while staying focused on the arena mechanics.
Always Watch the Ground
Many of Tyke’s attacks give you visual warnings.
Look for:
- Red laser indicators.
- Ground circles.
- Grenade landing markers.
- Orb landing locations.
Most of the dangerous attacks become much easier once you stop focusing only on Tyke and start watching the arena itself.
Do Not Waste the Purple Orb Opportunity
The purple orb is the most important part of the fight.
Whenever Tyke activates his shield and throws the orb, be ready to attack it.
A successful deflection gives you the opening you need to deal major melee damage.
Stay Calm During the Projectile Barrage
The pink projectile attack looks chaotic, but there are safe gaps between the shots.
Move slowly and deliberately through those openings.
Trying to dodge too aggressively can make the attack much harder than it actually is.
Tyke Boss Fight Rewards
After successfully defeating Tyke, the Security Chief, you will receive several rewards.
The boss gives you:
- Two chests containing high-quality relics.
- A new crafting material called Broken Rocket.
The relic chests can provide valuable rewards for your future runs, while Broken Rocket becomes another useful material for progressing through the game’s crafting and upgrade systems.
Tyke is a fun boss because the fight is not simply about dealing as much damage as possible. You need to pay attention to the arena, react to his different phases, and understand when the game wants you to attack and when it wants you to focus entirely on survival.
The purple orb mechanic is the key to the entire encounter. Once I understood that I needed to use my gun while Tyke was flying and save my melee attacks for the shield-breaking stun windows, the fight became much more manageable.
Phase 3 can be especially dangerous because of the restricted arena layouts, but if you stay calm, watch where the orb is landing, and avoid falling off the platforms, you should eventually be able to bring down Tyke.
Defeat him, collect your two high-quality relic chests and Broken Rocket, and you can continue your journey through Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault.
