Shift At Midnight stands out by blending intense survival moments with meaningful choices, making achievements tied to enemy kills and story decisions feel earned and impactful. Players soon realize some achievements might be missed without prior knowledge, especially those contingent on specific actions or planning ahead.

I’ve created this Shift At Midnight walkthrough that covers every Steam achievement and explains the easiest way to unlock all of them. I have also pointed out the few that need extra planning. Follow the achievements below in any order that fits your playthrough.

Most achievements in Shift At Midnight are straightforward but a few require intentional strategy and timing. Achievements can unlock naturally during regular play, from enemy kills, weapon acquisitions, or critical story choices involving your pet and Clyde.

First Blood is the simplest achievement, triggering once you eliminate your very first customer, regardless of whether it’s a real person or a doppelganger. Your natural progression will secure this early milestone.

Requirement: Kill your first customer.

This achievement unlocks when you kill a customer for the first time. It does not matter if the customer is a real person or a doppelganger. Your first kill will noramlly unlock it.

Still Breathing

Still Breathing unlocks upon surviving your initial Hunt. This can happen either by completing a doppelganger’s transaction and withstanding the Entity assault or by surviving to the first Blood Moon if you haven’t faced a Hunt yet.

You earn this achievement after surviving your first Hunt. Two situations can trigger it:

  • Complete the transaction of a doppelganger during your shift and survive the Entity attack.
  • Stay alive until the first Blood Moon if you have not triggered a Hunt earlier.

Locked And Loaded

Locked And Loaded demands a full set of weapons from your arsenal. Complete this achievement by purchasing every available melee weapon: the Brick, Baseball Bat, and Sledgehammer. Then, acquire all ranged options including SMGs, Shotguns, and Flamethrowers. The pistol is exempt since it’s given at the start.

Requirement: Buy every weapon and complete the weapon arsenal.

You must purchase every weapon available in the store.

Buy all melee weapons:

  • Brick
  • Baseball Bat
  • Sledgehammer

Then purchase every ranged weapon:

  • SMGs
  • Shotguns
  • Flamethrowers

The pistol does not need to be purchased because you already own it from the beginning.

Enemy Kill Achievements

Silenced

Silenced requires you to kill a Shrieking Doll, a disturbing crawling baby-like enemy that appears during Hunts alongside the Entity. One kill unlocks this achievement immediately.

Shrieking Dolls are the small crawling, baby-like enemies that spawn during Hunts alongside the main entity.

Kill one of them once, and the achievement will unlock immediately.

Freed

Freed challenges you to kill a Demented—a creature reminiscent of a “weeping angel” that only moves when unobserved. The key is to lure it onto a Bear Trap by looking away at the right moment, making it vulnerable to finish the kill and unlock the achievement.

The Demented behaves like a classic “weeping angel.” It only moves when you are not looking at it.

The easiest method to kill it:

  • Place a Bear Trap in its path.
  • Look away so it starts moving.
  • Make it walk into the trap.
  • Kill it to unlock the achievement.

Last Performance

Last Performance comes into play after Shift 9 when you start encountering Marionettes—enemies that emerge like jack-in-the-box toys and turn aggressive if not kept managed. Killing one Marionette during a Hunt will earn you this badge.

Requirement: Kill a Marionette.

Marionettes first appear from Shift 9 onward.

These enemies pop out like jack-in-the-box toys. They become dangerous if you ignore them and don’t wind their box in time.

Kill one Marionette during a Hunt to earn the achievement.

Relentless

Relentless is one of the more adrenaline-heavy achievements, tasking you to complete a Hunt in under 30 seconds. Starting fresh is the best approach: prepare by setting Bear Traps and arranging weapons before the first doppelganger arrives to maximize damage output efficiently.

This is much easier on a new save.

Start a new game, then let the first doppelganger enter your store during the opening shift. Prepare yourself before the Hunt begins by placing Bear Traps and keeping your guns ready.

Deal as much damage as possible when the Entity attack. Quick weapon swaps and good trap placement can finish the hunt within 30 seconds.

Ending Achievements

Empty Home

Empty Home achievements hinges on a heartbreaking choice—letting your pet die to save Clyde. To trigger this, forgo calling Clyde after Shift 12 and enter Shift 13 with less than $250 to pay for your pet’s surgery. This ensures your pet’s death and unlocks the achievement.

Requirement: Let your pet die in exchange for Clyde’s life.

You can unlock this ending by choosing not to call Clyde after Shift 12. You choice can keep Clyde alive, but you must also not save enough money for your pet’s final surgery.

At the end of Shift 13, if you have less than $250, you cannot pay for the surgery. Your pet will die, Clyde will survive, and the Empty Home achievement will unlock.

Grave Decision

Grave Decision flips that choice: sacrificing Clyde to save your pet. After Shift 12, choose to call Clyde, which will cost him his life but preserves your pet, awarding this achievement.

After Shift 12, choose to call Clyde. This decision sacrifices Clyde but saves your pet. Once done, the Grave Decision achievement will unlock.

True Ending

The coveted True Ending requires a delicate balance. Decide not to call Clyde post-Shift 12 and amass at least $250 by the end of Shift 13 to fund your pet’s surgery. This path keeps both alive and rewards you with the best possible ending and its achievement.

Requirement: Keep both your pet and Clyde alive.

This is the best ending in the Shift At Midnight game.

After Shift 12, choose not to call Clyde so he stays alive. Then make sure you have at least $250 saved before Shift 13 ends. You will pay for your pet’s final surgery, keep both characters alive, and unlock the True Ending achievement.

Best Ways to Earn More Money in Shift at Midnight

Money in Shift At Midnight is vital for buying weapons, upgrades, and covering your pet’s medical expenses. Multiple modest revenue streams quickly accumulate into a solid income.

Clean Every Mess

Cleaning stains and trash after each shift consistently rewards small cash increments—about $0.10 per stain or piece of refuse disposed of. Over time, this adds up meaningfully.

You receive:

  • $0.10 for every stain you clean.
  • $0.10 for every piece of trash or severed limb you throw into the dumpster.

It may not seem like much at first, but cleaning everything after every shift builds a steady income.

Catch Rats Instead of Killing Them

Catching rats alive instead of killing them drastically increases profit. Live rats earn you $3.00 each when thrown into the dumpster, compared to just $0.10 for disposing of a dead rat’s remains.

  • Pick up a live rat and throw it into the dumpster to earn $3.00.
  • Killing the rat only leaves a body part that gives $0.10 when discarded.

Always throw live rats into the dumpster if you want the highest payout.

Squash Cockroaches

Cockroaches generate two small income opportunities: $0.10 for hitting them with a mop plus $0.10 more when cleaning the resultant stain, totaling $0.20 per cockroach.

Hit one with your mop to receive $0.10. The dead bug also leaves a stain behind, and cleaning that stain rewards another $0.10.

Each cockroach is worth $0.20 in total.

Spend Tokens on the Prize Wheel

Tokens scattered throughout the store let you spin the prize wheel for five tokens per spin. A lucky spin can yield $10.00. As you unlock all hats, hat rewards vanish from the pool, turning those spins into token refunds to keep you spinning efficiently.

You can spend five tokens to spin the prize wheel. A lucky spin rewards $10.00 in store revenue.

The prize wheel also becomes more valuable after you unlock every hat. Hat rewards disappear from the pool, and any spin that lands on a hat refunds all five tokens instead of wasting them.

That makes it much easier to keep spinning until you land on better rewards.

Final Thoughts

Achievements in Shift At Midnight naturally emerge with gameplay, but require specific attention for endings and unique enemy kills. Save attentively before final shifts to unlock the True Ending, ensuring the most rewarding experience.
