Boss fights are some of the tougher encounters you’ll face in The Blood of Dawnwalker. Unlike regular enemies, bosses have much larger health pools, unique attacks, and special mechanics that can make simply attacking them head-on a bad idea.
Many bosses are tied to quests or major story encounters, while others can be discovered while exploring the different regions of Vale Sangora. Defeating them can reward you with unique items, help you progress through the story, and in some cases unlock new features or areas.
In this guide, I’ve listed the main Vrakhiri Court bosses along with the other bosses currently found across the game’s regions. I’ll also cover the basic attack indicators you need to understand before going into a boss fight.
Boss Fight Basics
Before worrying about individual bosses, make sure you understand the combat indicators that appear during fights.
Bosses can display different icons when they’re preparing an attack. These tell you how you should respond.
Shield Icon
A shield icon means the incoming attack can be blocked or parried.
You can either defend against the attack or attempt a well-timed parry to create an opening for a counterattack.
Skull Icon
A skull icon means the attack is unblockable.
Don’t try to stand your ground and block these attacks. Instead, dodge or move outside the attack’s range before it connects.
Learning to recognize these two indicators is particularly important against bosses because their attacks can deal significantly more damage than normal enemies.
The Vrakhiri Court
The main bosses of The Blood of Dawnwalker are connected to the Vrakhiri Court.
The current main bosses include:
- Brencis
- Ambrus
- Xanthe
- Bakir
These are the major vampire figures you’ll encounter as you progress through the game’s larger story.
Brencis
Brencis, the Knyaz of Vale Sangora, is one of the central figures of the Vrakhiri Court and a major boss in The Blood of Dawnwalker.
He is closely tied to the game’s main story and the conflict surrounding Coen and the vampires.
Ambrus
Ambrus, known as the Right Fist of the Knyaz, is another major member of the Vrakhiri Court.
Ambrus controls the northern part of the map and is intended to be one of the first major vampire targets you work toward confronting.
Xanthe
Xanthe, the Dark Mistress, is one of the major bosses connected to the Vrakhiri Court.
Her encounter is part of the larger vampire conflict that Coen becomes involved in throughout the game.
Bakir
Bakir, the Mad Khan, is another major member of the Vrakhiri Court and one of the main bosses you’ll encounter during your journey.
Other Bosses by Region
Not every boss in The Blood of Dawnwalker belongs to the Vrakhiri Court.
There are numerous other powerful enemies spread across Vale Sangora. Some appear as part of quests, while others are encountered while exploring specific regions.
Anachora
No additional boss is listed for Anachora in the current source.
Boar’s Back
No additional boss is listed for Boar’s Back in the current source.
Briar Sloughs
The Briar Sloughs region contains several boss encounters:
- Chief Jailor
- Cerbus the Scornful
- Rayko the Incorruptible
- Murohn Malformed Monstrosity
- Pack Leader
- Renegade Bruiser
These encounters are separate from the main Vrakhiri Court bosses and can be found as you explore the region and complete its content.
Griefberg Castle
Brencis Grotesque Ascendant
Brencis Grotesque Ascendant is a boss encounter associated with Griefberg Castle.
This is separate from the main Brencis encounter listed among the Vrakhiri Court bosses.
Laslea Glen
Several boss encounters can be found around Laslea Glen:
- Ravenous Bear
- The Forgotten Guardian
- Vrakhiri Banneret
The Ravenous Bear is particularly notable because it can be encountered relatively early during the Pilgrimage for Power questline.
Maragir Wealds
The Maragir Wealds are home to:
- Great Bog Wurm
- The Bloodletter
These bosses add some tougher encounters to the region as you explore further into the wilderness.
Rockfalls
The Rockfalls region contains:
- Munch-Munch
- Essence of Grief
Both are listed as regional boss encounters rather than members of the main Vrakhiri Court.
Svartrau City
Two bosses are currently listed in Svartrau City:
- Almshouse Monstrosity
- Mihai, Patron Saint of the Cathedral
The city contains some of the more significant locations in Vale Sangora, making these encounters worth keeping in mind as you progress through the area.
Svartrau Outskirts
The outskirts of Svartrau have two listed bosses:
- Rurg the Honourable
- Ursul the Undefeated
These encounters can be found while exploring the areas surrounding the city.
Tantari Woods
No additional boss is listed for Tantari Woods in the current source.
St. Tyna’s Grove
Leonica
Leonica, She Who Speaks with the Devil, is the listed boss for St. Tyna’s Grove.
Her title alone should give you an idea that this isn’t an ordinary encounter.
The Silts
No additional boss is listed for The Silts in the current source.
Bosses in The Blood of Dawnwalker
The Blood of Dawnwalker has a mixture of major story bosses and regional encounters, so you won’t necessarily encounter every powerful enemy as part of the main campaign.
The major Vrakhiri Court bosses are:
- Brencis
- Ambrus
- Xanthe
- Bakir
Other bosses are spread across regions including Briar Sloughs, Laslea Glen, Maragir Wealds, Rockfalls, Svartrau City, Svartrau Outskirts, and St. Tyna’s Grove.
When fighting any of them, pay close attention to their attack indicators. A shield means you can block or parry, while a skull means you need to dodge or get out of the attack’s range.
As you learn each boss’s attack patterns and combine that knowledge with Coen’s abilities and equipment, you’ll have a much better chance of surviving the game’s more demanding encounters.
