There’s a certain kind of update that doesn’t just add content, it quietly changes how you play. Version 1.2.0 of Slime Rancher 2 does exactly that. At first glance, Radiant Slimes and the Sanctuary feel like side features, but once you understand how they connect, they become one of the most rewarding systems in the game.
This guide breaks down everything you actually need to know, without the confusion the update initially brings.
How to Unlock the Sanctuary
Before you can do anything with Radiant Slimes or Sprinkles, you need access to the Sanctuary.
To unlock it:
- Enter the Grey Labyrinth
- Head to the main room
- Find and interact with one of the three hidden Caretaker Robots
Once you do:
- You’ll receive coordinates to the Sanctuary
- Travel there via the boat near the Conservatory
After unlocking it, you can place a teleporter and treat it like any other major area.
The Lost & Found System (How Radiant Slimes Work)
One of the most important systems tied to Radiant Slimes is the Lost & Found mechanic, even though the game barely explains it.
Here’s how it works:
- If a Radiant Slime is lost in the Slime Sea, Tarr, or similar events
- It will reappear after 3 in-game days in the Sanctuary
- It respawns in its original base form, not as a Largo
This leads to some useful tricks:
- You can reverse unwanted Largos by tossing them into the sea
- You can safely experiment without permanently losing rare slimes
Important Limitation
The only confirmed way to permanently lose a Radiant Slime is:
- Incineration
Everything else, including Tarr interactions, can be recovered through Lost & Found.
How to Get Sprinkles
Sprinkles are tied directly to the Sanctuary, but the game doesn’t make it obvious.
Inside each Sanctuary room, you’ll find a sprinkle generator. Its output depends on two things:
1. Decoration Score
- More decorations = faster generation
- Lights on the generator increase as you decorate
2. Radiant Slimes
- Increase generation speed further
- Up to a soft cap of 5 for efficiency
That said, decoration matters more than slimes early on. You can generate plenty of Sprinkles even without filling rooms with Radiants.
Caretaker Robots (Free Radiant Slimes)
There are three Caretaker Robots in the Grey Labyrinth, and each one gives you something extremely valuable.
- Interacting with each robot spawns a Radiant Slime
- These are some of the easiest Radiants you’ll ever get
Locations include:
- Near the Aquarium section
- On the bridge toward the Shadow Plort area
- On the large tower behind the blocked wall
If you’re serious about collecting Radiants, don’t skip these.
Guaranteed Radiant Slime Locations
Radiant Slimes are rare, but the game does give you a few guaranteed ones.
These spawn:
- In hidden areas
- As one-time encounters
- Regardless of region rules
Known Locations
- Rainbow Fields (near Ember Valley portal)
- Ember Valley (multiple hidden spots)
- Starlight Strand (beaches and alcoves)
- Powderfall Bluffs (underground areas)
These do not respawn, so treat them as limited rewards.
Grey Labyrinth Radiant Spawns (Different Behavior)
The Grey Labyrinth works differently.
- Some Radiants spawn behind distortion walls
- Others appear in specific rooms
- These are semi-random, not guaranteed
Interestingly:
- Some locations may spawn Radiants again after several days
- This makes the Labyrinth one of the few places worth revisiting
Radiant Largos Explained
Radiant Largos behave differently than you might expect.
The key rule:
- Color is determined by the base (parent) slime, not the plort
This means:
- A Radiant Dervish eating a Ringtail plort keeps Dervish coloring
- The “host” slime controls appearance
If you care about visuals, this matters more than anything else.
Gordo Snares and Radiant Farming
If you’re trying to target specific Radiants, Gordo Snares are surprisingly useful.
- Master Snares can produce Radiant Slimes
- Radiants appear in the burst after feeding
It’s not guaranteed, but with enough attempts, you can farm specific types.
One limitation:
- Not all slime types can be lured (like Puddle or Fire)
Radiant Slimes aren’t required to progress, but once you understand how they interact with the Sanctuary, decoration, and Sprinkles, they become hard to ignore.
What initially feels like a cosmetic system slowly turns into a long-term collection and optimization loop. And with systems like Lost & Found protecting your progress, the game actively encourages experimentation.
