It’s easy to miss important systems that can make your team significantly stronger.

The good news is that once you understand how these mechanics work together, progression becomes much smoother. This beginner’s guide covers the most important tips every new player should know before investing dozens of hours into their Animon collection.

Learn How Types and Hidden Types Actually Work

One of the biggest mistakes new players make is looking only at an Animon’s main type.

Every Animon has a primary type visible on its profile, but most creatures also possess a Hidden Type. This hidden classification can completely change how that Animon interacts with other elements in battle.

As a result, two Animon that appear to share the same primary type may have very different strengths and weaknesses. A Virus-type Animon might resist attacks that another Virus-type creature struggles against simply because their Hidden Types differ.

This system adds a lot more depth to team building than most monster-collecting RPGs. Before replacing a team member or evolving an Animon, take a moment to check its Hidden Type and how it affects matchups.

Players who ignore Hidden Types often end up wondering why certain battles feel much harder than expected.

Scan Every New Animon Three Times

The scanning system is one of the most valuable tools in the entire game.

Many beginners scan an enemy once and assume they have learned everything important. In reality, you’re only seeing part of the picture.

The first scan reveals a portion of the enemy’s weakness chart.

A second scan unlocks their complete weakness information, allowing you to target vulnerabilities much more effectively.

The third scan is where the real rewards begin. Fully researching an Animon reveals detailed AniWiki information, including:

  • Evolution lines
  • Available moves
  • Quirks
  • Additional creature data

This information becomes incredibly useful later when deciding which Animon deserve a permanent spot on your team.

Whenever you encounter a new species, make it a habit to fully scan it before moving on.

Understand Attributes Early

Attributes provide powerful passive benefits that can dramatically affect battle performance.

Unlike standard elemental types, Attributes grant special bonuses that activate naturally during combat.

Some Attributes focus on healing allies after attacks. Others increase overall damage output, improve critical hit rates, or create unique offensive effects that help bypass enemy resistances.

At first glance, two Animon with similar stats may appear equally strong. Once Attributes come into play, however, the difference becomes much more noticeable.

A creature with the right Attribute can outperform another Animon with slightly better raw numbers simply because its passive effect contributes more during battle.

Before investing heavily in an Animon, check which Attribute it possesses and consider how it fits your preferred playstyle.

Don’t Forget to Unlock Traits

A common source of confusion for new players involves Traits.

You’ll notice Trait information displayed on your Animon fairly early in the adventure. Seeing them listed often makes players assume they’re already active.

That’s not actually the case.

Traits remain locked until you defeat a specific story character later in the campaign. Only after that battle will these bonuses become available for use.

Players taking the northern route will encounter this progression milestone around Route 16 while traveling toward Arsilia City.

Once unlocked, Traits add another layer of customization and can significantly improve certain Animon builds.

Because of this, it is worth paying attention to Trait potential even before the feature officially becomes available.

Spend Your Stat Points Immediately

If there is one tip every beginner should remember, it’s this: never leave stat points unused.

Every time an Animon levels up, it earns points that can be manually distributed into various stats.

The game does not automatically allocate these points for you.

Many players assume their creatures are becoming stronger simply by leveling. While levels help, a large portion of your power comes from actually spending those earned points.

An underbuilt level 25 Animon can feel weaker than a properly optimized lower-level creature.

Whenever your team gains levels, open the stat menu and distribute points right away.

Doing this consistently will make story battles, boss encounters, and exploration much easier.

Master Both Catching Methods

LumenTale offers two completely different ways to catch Animon, and understanding when to use each one is important.

Method 1: Field Capture

The first method involves using your Holoken to throw a Bilia directly at wild Animon.

This approach is fast and efficient when dealing with weaker creatures.

Success depends on accurate aiming and completing the Quick Time Event that appears after the Bilia connects.

Keep in mind that every species behaves differently.

Some Animon remain calm and allow easy captures. Others become aggressive the moment they notice the player.

Failing a capture attempt often causes the target to become enraged and start chasing you.

Method 2: Battle Capture

For stronger Animon, entering combat is usually the safer option.

Switching into Animon Mode allows you to fight the target and apply status effects before attempting a capture.

Stunning an enemy before throwing a Bilia significantly improves your chances of success.

This strategy becomes especially valuable when hunting rare creatures or higher-level targets that would otherwise be difficult to catch in the overworld.

As a general rule, use field captures for weaker encounters and battle captures for anything valuable.

Unlock and Use the AniWiki Constantly

The AniWiki becomes available shortly after leaving Iris Hamlet.

Many players treat it as a simple encyclopedia, but it functions as much more than that.

The AniWiki tracks:

  • Captured Animon
  • Research progress
  • Collected items
  • Evolution information
  • Creature data
  • Weakness discoveries

As you continue scanning enemies, additional information automatically updates inside the database.

Think of the AniWiki as your personal strategy guide. Whenever you’re unsure about an Animon’s strengths, weaknesses, or evolution path, this should be your first stop.

Checking the AniWiki regularly can save hours of unnecessary experimentation.

Pay Attention to Story Choices

LumenTale places greater emphasis on player choice than many monster-collecting RPGs.

Throughout the adventure, you’ll encounter dialogue options and story decisions that can influence future events.

Not every choice completely changes the narrative, but many can affect your experience in meaningful ways.

Because of this, rushing through conversations without reading can cause you to miss important opportunities or story outcomes.

Whenever a major decision appears, take a moment to think before selecting an option.

Logos or Mythos: Your First Major Decision

One of the earliest important choices asks players to side with either Logos or Mythos.

At first, the decision may seem like a simple story preference, but it has a larger impact than expected.

Choosing a faction determines whether you initially travel north or south, leading to different environments, characters, encounters, and overall experiences.

Neither route is objectively better.

Instead, they offer different perspectives on the world and allow players to experience unique content depending on their selection.

If you’re someone who enjoys replaying games, this decision alone provides a strong reason to start a second playthrough later.

Beginner Mistakes to Avoid

Before finishing your early-game journey, keep these common mistakes in mind:

  • Ignoring Hidden Types when building a team.
  • Scanning enemies only once instead of three times.
  • Forgetting to spend stat points after leveling up.
  • Assuming Traits are active before unlocking them.
  • Using field captures against powerful Animon.
  • Neglecting the AniWiki database.
  • Rushing through important story decisions.

Avoiding these mistakes will put you far ahead of most new players and make the road through LumenTale considerably smoother.

The game rewards preparation more than brute force. Players who fully research Animon, understand Hidden Types, and carefully develop their teams will find even the toughest encounters far more manageable than those who simply rely on level grinding.
