Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault has several challenging bosses waiting for you, and The Herald Bringer of Tekno is likely to be one of the first major battles where you really need to understand the game’s combat mechanics.
You will encounter The Herald while making your way through the Day Realm in Kalina. Since this is one of the first main boss fights in the game, it can feel difficult at first, especially because you cannot simply attack the boss whenever you want.
In this post, we will explain how to defeat The Herald Bringer of Tekno in Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault, including how his shield mechanic works, what to prepare before the fight, how to survive all three phases, and what rewards you get for defeating him.
Moonlighter 2 The Endless Vault Bringer of Tekno Boss Guide
Before starting the fight, it is important to understand how The Herald works.
The boss has three phases, along with both a regular HP bar and a shield bar. The purple segments above his health represent his shield.
You cannot properly damage The Herald until you remove this shield and stun him.
The main mechanic of the fight involves using the purple objects that appear in the arena. You need to use Rapture, your backpack attack, to send these objects back toward the boss and remove segments from his shield.
Once the shield is completely depleted, The Herald becomes stunned. This is when you should move in and deal as much damage as possible before he recovers.
Before entering the battle, we recommend having at least one upgraded weapon of your choice. Increasing your maximum HP and carrying more potions will also make the fight considerably easier, especially during the final phase.
Phase 1
The first phase introduces you to most of The Herald’s main attacks.
At this point, the fight is relatively manageable because you still have plenty of space to move around and two pieces of cover available in the arena.
Fire Shockwaves
One of the first attacks The Herald uses is a series of fire shockwaves.
He can send either one or two shockwaves across the arena, covering a large area.
The good news is that these are fairly easy to avoid once you understand the timing. Depending on where you are standing, you can dodge either forward or backward through the shockwave.
Try not to panic and dodge too early. Wait for the attack to get close enough before using your dodge.
Speaker Projectiles
The two speakers positioned beside The Herald will also throw projectiles toward Will.
Before these projectiles hit the ground, you will see red circles showing exactly where they are going to land.
Keep watching the floor and simply move away from the marked areas. As long as you pay attention to the red indicators, this attack should not cause too many problems.
Fire Laser Beam
The Herald can also fire a large laser beam of fire across the arena from left to right.
During the first phase, this attack is much easier to handle because you have two pieces of cover available.
Simply move behind one of the covers and wait for the laser to pass. You can avoid the attack completely without needing to take any unnecessary risks.
Breaking The Shield
While The Herald is performing his attacks, you will notice purple objects appearing around the arena.
These are extremely important because they are how you remove his shield.
Stand behind one of the purple objects and use Rapture, your backpack attack, to launch it toward The Herald.
You do not need to worry too much about precise aiming. Position yourself behind the object, activate the backpack attack, and it will be sent toward the boss.
Each successful hit removes one segment from his shield.
You need to repeat this process six times to completely destroy the shield.
Once the shield is broken, The Herald becomes stunned.
This is your biggest opportunity to deal damage, so get close and attack as much as possible before he recovers.
Phase 2
After you remove around one-third of The Herald’s health, the second phase begins.
The boss recovers, regenerates his shield, and becomes dangerous again.
He will also destroy one of the two covers in the arena, leaving you with less protection than before.
Deal With The Spawned Enemies First
The Herald will now summon several enemies into the arena.
We recommend defeating these enemies as quickly as possible.
Leaving them alive while trying to dodge the boss’s attacks can make the fight unnecessarily difficult. Once they are gone, you will have more room to focus on the purple objects and The Herald’s attack patterns.
Small Fire Projectiles
The Herald gains an additional attack during this phase where he fires smaller fire projectiles toward you.
Keep moving and watch for incoming attacks while continuing to work on breaking his shield.
The fire laser attack also becomes more dangerous. It can now travel from right to left and then return, so do not assume you are safe immediately after the first pass.
If you still have the remaining cover available, use it whenever possible.
Break The Shield Again
The main strategy remains the same during Phase 2.
Avoid the shockwaves, projectiles, lasers, and smaller enemies while looking for the purple objects around the arena.
Use your backpack attack to send them back at The Herald and remove all of his shield segments.
Once the shield is destroyed, immediately focus on dealing damage until you bring his health down to the final third.
Phase 3
The final phase is where the fight becomes much more aggressive.
The Herald is now fully enraged and destroys the last remaining piece of cover in the arena.
From this point onward, you have nowhere to hide.
Everything depends on your ability to dodge.
No More Cover
Without any cover available, the fire laser beam becomes much more dangerous.
You can no longer stand behind an obstacle and wait for it to pass. Instead, you need to carefully watch the attack and dodge at the correct time.
At the same time, you still need to pay attention to the projectiles landing around the arena.
This is why keeping some open space around yourself is important. If you get trapped between enemies, projectiles, and the laser beam, avoiding everything becomes much harder.
Another Wave of Enemies
The Herald will summon another wave of enemies during this phase.
Try to defeat them as quickly as possible.
The final phase already has enough happening around the arena, and allowing smaller enemies to remain alive can quickly overwhelm you.
Once you clear them out, focus again on surviving the boss’s attacks and breaking his shield.
More Aggressive Attacks
The Herald does not introduce many completely new mechanics during the final phase, but his existing attacks happen much more frequently.
Expect more fire shockwaves, projectiles, and aggressive attack combinations.
The strategy remains the same, but you will need to execute it faster and more carefully.
Keep dodging, watch for the purple objects, and use Rapture to send them back toward the boss.
Once you break his shield for the final time, move in and deal as much damage as possible.
If you have saved some potions for this stage, now is the time to use them. The final phase can become messy very quickly, so surviving is more important than trying to land every possible attack.
The Reward
After successfully defeating The Herald Bringer of Tekno, you will receive two chests containing high-quality relics.
You will also obtain a new crafting material called Sound of Hubris.
The Herald is an important early boss in Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault because the fight teaches you how to manage arena mechanics, use your backpack attack strategically, and recognize when it is safe to attack.
Once you understand the shield mechanic and learn to save your strongest attacks for when The Herald is stunned, the battle becomes much easier to manage.
