- Missile Circus – Fire 20 Rockets During One Rocket Storm Activation
This guide covers the harder achievements and explains the easiest setups for unlocking them.
Brawler – Deal 200K Damage With Short-Range Weapons in One Run
For Brawler, you need to deal a total of 200,000 damage using short-range weapons during a single run.
The easiest setup is to start with the first character, who begins with a sword. Continue using close-range weapons and pick up the Shotgun when it becomes available.
Focus your upgrades on:
- Physical Damage
- Weapon Damage
- Attack Speed
Avoid relying too heavily on long-range weapons, as you want as much of your total damage as possible to come from short-range attacks.
Riot Needle – Reload a Weapon 45 Times in One Wave
To unlock Riot Needle, you need to reload a weapon 45 times during a single wave.
The recommended character for this achievement is Bloodfang.
Focus heavily on increasing your Attack Speed, then keep firing and moving around the arena. More attack speed means more ammunition consumed and, therefore, more reloads.
You should be able to unlock this achievement around Wave 12, depending on your build.
Chaotic Strike – Deal 200 Damage in a Single Elemental Attack
For Chaotic Strike, you need to deal at least 200 damage with one elemental attack.
The easiest character to use is the fourth character, who starts with the Annihiliator.
The Annihiliator already deals high damage per attack, so focus your upgrades on:
- Weapon Damage
- Elemental Damage
- Critical Hit bonuses
Keep upgrading the weapon and wait for a strong critical hit. Eventually, one attack should reach the required 200 damage.
Iron Maw – Get a Weapon to 12 Attacks Per Second
For Iron Maw, you need to increase a weapon’s attack speed to 12 attacks per second.
The easiest weapon for this is the Flame Buffet, which already starts with approximately 7 attacks per second.
Simply pick up the weapon and invest heavily in:
- Attack Speed
- Fire Rate
- Any bonuses that increase weapon speed
Since the Flame Buffet already has a high starting attack speed, reaching 12 attacks per second is much easier than with slower weapons.
Last Resort – Complete Wave 20 With Less Than 10% HP Remaining
This is one of the trickier achievements.
You must finish Wave 20 while having less than 10% of your maximum HP remaining.
A useful strategy is to choose the Protocol that gives you an extra life as insurance. You can also use the special ability that sacrifices health in exchange for additional damage.
The safest approach is:
- Build enough damage to defeat enemies quickly.
- Reach the Wave 20 boss.
- Reduce the boss to very low health.
- Use your health-sacrificing special ability to bring yourself below 10% HP.
- Finish the boss without accidentally killing yourself.
Timing is important here. Don’t lower your health too early unless you’re confident you can survive.
Riposte – Block or Avoid 300 Attacks in One Run
For Riposte, you need to block or avoid 300 attacks during a single run.
The recommended choice is the first character.
Focus heavily on:
- Block Chance
- Defensive upgrades
- Survivability
A longer run with strong defensive stats gives enemies plenty of opportunities to attack you, making this achievement easier to unlock naturally.
Stability Core – Stand Still for 5 Minutes During a Run
For Stability Core, you need to spend a total of 5 minutes standing still during one run.
The easiest method is to create a very strong build and play on the first map, where survival is generally easier.
Once your damage and defenses are strong enough, stay in one safe location whenever possible.
You don’t necessarily need to stand still for five consecutive minutes. The achievement tracks your total time spent standing still throughout the run.
Shadow Dancer – Clear Wave 20 Without Taking Damage
Shadow Dancer requires you to clear Wave 20 without taking any damage.
The safest strategy is similar to Stability Core:
- Play on the first map.
- Build a powerful damage setup.
- Prioritize survivability and enemy clearing.
- Keep your distance whenever possible.
Since a single hit can ruin the achievement, don’t take unnecessary risks. A strong build that kills enemies before they can reach you is the best approach.
Cannon Spike – Deal 200K Boost Ability Damage in One Run
To unlock Cannon Spike, you need to deal 200,000 total damage with Boost abilities during a single run.
Play as the first character and focus your build around:
- Force Damage
- Boost Damage
- Boost Recharge
The faster your Boost becomes available, the more often you can use it and accumulate damage toward the achievement.
Conflagration – Deal 300K Burn Damage in One Run
For Conflagration, you need to deal a total of 300,000 Burn damage during one run.
Build heavily around fire-based weapons and upgrades.
Prioritize:
- Fire Weapons
- Elemental Damage
- Burn Damage
- Damage-over-Time bonuses
The more enemies you can consistently apply Burn to, the faster your total damage will increase.
S Rank – Get All Levels S Ranked
To unlock S Rank, you need to achieve an S Rank on every level.
The requirement appears to be around 5,000 points or more on a map.
The best strategy is to build as much power as possible while also collecting plenty of Sparks, which provide experience.
Useful upgrades include:
- Damage
- Range
- Experience collection
- Spark collection bonuses
Don’t rush through the map without collecting Sparks. A powerful build helps you survive, but collecting enough experience is also important for maximizing your score.
Reactive Armor – Take 3,000 Damage in One Run
For Reactive Armor, you need to take a total of 3,000 damage during a single run.
This sounds dangerous, but the key is to constantly recover your health.
Focus heavily on Life Steal and use fast-firing weapons such as:
- Bloodfang’s Pistols
- Minigun
- Basic Assault Rifle
You can also use the special ability that sacrifices health.
The goal is to repeatedly take damage while healing enough to stay alive. Fast-firing weapons combined with Life Steal make this much more manageable.
Missile Circus – Fire 20 Rockets During One Rocket Storm Activation
For Missile Circus, you need to fire 20 rockets during a single activation of Rocket Storm while playing as Bloodfang.
This achievement requires a very high amount of Attack Speed.
Focus your entire build around increasing your fire rate:
- Invest heavily in Attack Speed.
- Choose the Protocol that increases Attack Speed over time while you haven’t taken damage.
- Avoid getting hit so the Protocol bonus can continue building.
- Wait until later waves, ideally when waves last around 50 seconds or longer.
- Try to reach more than 100% additional Fire Rate from your build and Protocol bonuses.
When you’re ready:
- Activate Bloodfang’s Boost for additional Fire Rate.
- Activate Rocket Storm immediately afterward.
- Let the increased attack speed fire as many rockets as possible.
With enough Attack Speed stacked, you should reach the required 20 rockets in a single activation.
Several of Vital Shell’s harder achievements become much easier when you build specifically for them instead of trying to unlock everything during a normal run.
Before starting a run, decide which achievement you’re targeting and build around its requirement:
- Attack Speed builds for Riot Needle, Iron Maw, and Missile Circus.
- Elemental builds for Chaotic Strike and Conflagration.
- Defensive builds for Riposte and Shadow Dancer.
- Life Steal builds for Reactive Armor.
- Boost-focused builds for Cannon Spike.
Trying to complete one or two compatible achievements per run is usually much more efficient than attempting to unlock everything at once.
