This early side quest in Windrose looks simple at first, but a lot of players get stuck either finding the treasure spot or surviving the fight that follows. Here’s exactly what you need to do, step by step, without confusion.
How to Start the Quest
The quest begins when you loot a Curio called “Blurry Sketch of the Island” from a shipwreck on the eastern coast of your starting island.
Once you read it in your Journal (J key), a blue marker appears on your map, guiding you to the treasure location.
Important Requirement
You must have a Shovel before going there, otherwise you won’t be able to complete the objective even if you find the correct spot.
Where to Dig (Exact Treasure Location)
When you reach the marked location, you will see four skeletons placed in a square formation.
The treasure is not near them — it is exactly:
- In the center of the square
- The midpoint between all four skeletons
Use your shovel there, and the buried chest will appear.
What Happens Next (The Trap)
As soon as you interact with the chest, the four skeletons will revive as enemies called Drowned.
You will be fighting:
- 4 enemies at once
- Level 2 melee units
- They can also throw rocks from range
Individually they are weak, but together they can overwhelm you if you’re not prepared.
How to Beat the Drowned Easily
The key here is not to panic and not to fight them like a normal 1v1.
Use this approach:
- Always keep moving in a circle to avoid getting surrounded
- When they throw rocks, movement alone is enough to avoid damage
- When they charge forward, hit them once to interrupt and step back
- Only attack 1–2 times, then reposition immediately
- Do not try to block everything — there are too many enemies
Preparation Before the Fight
This makes a huge difference:
- Use two food buffs to increase your HP
- Carry healing potions or bandages
- Bring at least basic upgraded gear
If you’ve completed the early quest Twist of Fancy, you should already have extra healing potions, which helps a lot here.
Important Death Note
If you die during the fight:
- All enemies reset
- You must trigger the encounter again
So it’s better to play safe rather than rushing damage.
Rewards
After defeating all enemies, interact with the chest again to receive:
- 50 XP
- 4 Silver Ingots
- 5 Guineas
This quest is one of the first moments where the game tests your understanding of movement and stamina management. If you treat it like a slow, controlled fight instead of rushing, it becomes much easier.
